Allegheny County considers mandate for HPV vaccine for students
Pittsburgh Post Gazette ^ | June 22, 2016 | Lauren Rosenblatt

After 35 radiation treatments and seven chemotherapy sessions to reduce a cancerous lump in his throat from the human papillomavirus HPV, John Rhodes had trouble eating, swallowing and communicating.

For a time, he needed a feeding tube, and he has yet to put on the 80 pounds he lost as a result. As assistant coach for the Duquesne men’s basketball team, he had to use other tactics to get his players attention so he could teach them without the booming voice he used to have.

Mr. Rhodes, 50, expressed his support for the HPV vaccine at the Allegheny County Health Department’s public forum on Wednesday night. The forum was meant to gather community input about the possibility of requiring all adolescents be vaccinated against HPV.

“As a coach and a very competitive person, I challenge all of you to encourage more people to get vaccinated,” Mr. Rhodes told the crowd.

Karen Hacker, director of the Allegheny County Health Department, said the department would compile the information from community members and present it at the next board meeting on July 13. If the board decides to move forward with the mandate, Dr. Hacker said there will be time for public comment then. The health department is also discussing the possibility of requiring school nurses to report vaccination coverage for the HPV vaccine.

The HPV vaccine includes three shots over a period of six months and is meant to protect against genital warts, throat and mouth infections, and a host of cancers. The virus is a sexually transmitted disease and affects nearly 80 million people in the United States, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

I realize this article is from June but I spent the better part of this morning emailing the entire Allegheny County Council & board of health expressing my concerns over this mandate. First, this vaccine has a questionable safety record. Second, why vaccinate 11 & 12 year olds against a sexually transmitted disease. And third, this disease is not communicable by "casual" contact like going to school. So why would it suddenly need to be mandatory for a child to enter 7th grade?

And before all of you pile on about endangering the health of my kids let me add that this vaccine is already available to those who wish to have it. It doesn't need to be mandatory. This stinks to high heaven. Somebody somewhere is getting their pockets lined by Merck

Why not, Governor Perry thought it was a swell idea.

All kidding aside, you’re exactly right.

Anyone who wants it can get it. Those that choose not to have that right too.

Who knew?

Exactly my point from a few weeks ago, when I was blasted on FR for stating this.

“ideas so good they are mandatory”. Besides, PA school systems already have a compulsory vaccination program. It’s why I homeschool.

Well, that and the education system sucks.

He's 50. And the stats on cancer from HPV are minute.

Let's talk about his behavior before we talk about vaccinating 12 year olds.

Talking about behavior is forbidden nowadays. When it comes to sex, all behaviors are good and praiseworthy, except for behaviors like abstinence.

Let's talk about his behavior ...

We're not allowed to talk about the behavior that transmits AIDS, so it's very unlikely we'll talk about the behavior that results in a 50-year-old man's having HPV-related throat cancer.

Obviously, Mr Rhodes has been consuming too much strange tuna fish. Must the children suffer for this guy’s objectionable diet?

I concur.

When the HPV vac first came out, it was for girls only. After I did my research, I decided that my (then) teenage daughter could “avoid the risk factors in behavior” and NOT take the vaccine.

I was vilified. The “big name hospital group” who bought out our Pediatricians practice had to “discuss” (at length) my “ill advised” anti vaccine stance. Even tho all other vaccines (including flu shots had been given, at that office and were in their records). I felt bullied.

Took her younger bros elsewhere. I’m sure tho, to this day, in some great health insurance data base in the sky, I’m coded as a Christian Neanderthal, anti science zealot.

I’m glad you emailed the County Council.

I’m sorry that happened to you. I am preparing to change pediatricians if I have to although I don’t anticipate that since one in the practice is a staunch Catholic with 8 kids and another is openly conservative. I, too, did some research on this vaccine. My thought is that its pretty stunning & telling that it hasn’t been taken off the market. The side effects are astounding.

If HPV or Hep B is being spread on school grounds, the school is grossly delinquent in its responsibility.

If it isn’t being spread on school grounds, the school has no mandate.

I took the Hep B series because I’m a nurse. I supported my daughter’s refusal on religious grounds and the school didn’t contest.

Now the younger one is being asked to take both Hep B and HPV.

But bear in mind that a virgin could be infected on her wedding night by her husband who might have had a single prior experience.

I’ve been present at surgery performed on a 22 y.o. woman with vulvar cancer.

I wonder what the incidence of HPV related cancers is in homosexual men, compared to heterosexual women.

As soon as I saw "basketball coach" I thought "gay" as well.

A lot of Sandusky's and Hastert's out there...

I’m opprosed to vaccines without dire necessity. I for one have gotten a chronic form of GB (CIDP) from what I believe was from a flu shot at work. 17 years now and it hasn’t gone away.

That being said a friend just got throat cancer from HPV which hid in his throat for 40 years after some liaison with some young lady he probably doesn’t even remember her name. He is doing well after radiation and chemotherapy. But the road to recovery is long and painful.

Not defending his choiceis. Back in the 60s 70s things were pretty wild.

Not defending the use of vaccines. At least not until they are proven safe.

Just relating an experience that hit me close to home.

I cannot fathom throwing my child into the arms of the government and onto the backs of the taxpayers for their “education”, only to have their souls murdered and their spirit turned into a ghoulish vampire filled with pride, ignorance, and arrogance.

A demon whose only aspiration is a beat-down at McDonald’s videoed and uploaded to youtube.

I think the rise of antibiotic immune STDs that have already started to show up in the homosexual community will kill the free-love atmosphere that allowed HPV to infect one in four adults.

Vice is permissible because evil behaviors create profit and jobs for the State (and evil corporations who control the govt. now). (Power corrupts).

Virtue creates Freedom (Socrates/Aristotle, The Founders). Without virtue (inner control of base emotions/HABIT), there is no Freedom.

All virtue is learned and habituated in childhood, and Socrates stated the ONLY reason for education is to teach Virtue (Justice is the Queen of Virtue).

Now virtue (Christianity—Justice, Wisdom, Jesus) is BANNED-—John Dewey threw out virtue (Classical Christian curricula) for secularism/humanism, Marxism (religions) and to erase the ONLY rational religion/worldview in our children, because it is the ONLY rational religion which was capable of creating the Minds of a Newton, Tesla, the Age of Reason, and the Founding Fathers (Free Will/Indivdiualism/Natural Laws are all Christian concepts only).

They have to create dumb, evil people...so they have slaves for the state. They do it by removing children from the Natural Family (and destroying the Natural Family so children are filled with chaos and anger and will only grow up to be dysfunctional, emotionally damaged (unable to have stable relationships) and addicts (easily controlled by State/vice).

To destroy Western Civilization, the Cultural Marxists in the 30s knew they had to control the minds of the children and normalize vice, and embed evil ideology of hate (Marxism)-—to collapse 2000 years of worldview-—for satanism/Marxism-—any of the IRRATIONAL (evil/slave) religions.
