Donald Trump on Monday spent part of his July 4th with Sen. Joni Ernst -- fueling speculation that the Iowa freshman senator could be on the short list of his vice presidential picks.

Ernst told Fox News they had a "good conversation," adding, "I will continue to share my insights with Donald about the need to strengthen our economy, keep our nation safe, and ensure America is always a strong, stabilizing force around the globe."

Earlier, Trump tweeted, "I look forward to meeting (Ernst) today in New Jersey. She has done a great job as Senator of Iowa!"

Oh, that’s too bad. Is there ANYONE who doesn’t cave and go the way of the masses? I sure hope Mr. Trump cuts through the BS and makes the right pick. Maybe Newt is the best choice.

Is he interviewing Huckabee?

That is my thinking as well. All I know is after it’s over it will be obvious what all the symbology meant. We will have a thousand years to talk about it. ;-)

My thinking is; if I trust DJT to be POTUS, then I believe he will make the right choice, whomever it will be.

And I find that they actively seek out enemies and conflict.

Yes.

Dick Cheney was more than a placeholder. In many ways, he was a stronger voice for conservatism than his boss.

I think the position matters in the body politic today, though you’re right on the history.

She literally castrates hogs. Has a farm in SW Iowa. Ernst outclasses darn near every politician in D.C. Used to sew her own clothes. Knows Christ as the center of her life. Fought in Iraq for the Iowa National al Guard. Very conservative voting record. I hope she runs for president some day. She won’t be Trumps V.P. She probably told him to grow up.

Joni is untested, has displayed no leadership in her brief senate career and way oversold her military experience. Not a combat veteran, but a creditable veteran.

I am from Iowa, know of Ernst and her Guard connections, and would not consider her just because of what is or is not hanging between her legs.

We need political leadership, not just a photo-op candidate.

The vice president is not supposed to be a leader. The only thing they have to do is read a teleprompter, look good on tv and not embarrass the candidate on interviews. Joni would do just fine.

There are currently 21 US Senators who vote more conservative than Ernst.

She isn’t the worst by a long shot, but she truly has not proven to be that conservative.

But she would be a women on the ticket.

What a person says to get elected, and what they do afterward are often not within the same universe. This is the general rule of late.

Ernst certainly sounded more conservative while she was running for the senate.

We need strong knowledgeable and true Statesmen at this time in our country!

It is understandable that our candidate would look at all of his strategic options, which would include how to win over moderate women voters. However, all things moderate is not what our country or conservatives need right now.

It is also true he may be trying to appease the RNC establishment. Moderate Republicans (RINO’s) have remained one of the most important reasons our country and freedom have been brought to the very brink of destruction!

I do not believe conservative voters will respond well in the future to compromise, when our nations is already in a death spiral socially and economically.

I am sure both of these are under consideration.

While certainly Republican, Ernst is not in the truly conservative Republican echelon.

If Trump picks Ernst, we will have a more moderate presidency.

How the ticket and presidency is defined as moderate or conservative will be determined by the degree to which a person is liberal, moderate, or conservative to begin with.

Many who would call themselves “conservative” today are more liberal socially and economically than some Democrats in the previous generation. So a more liberal Republican would consider a more moderate Republican who compromises with the social and economic agenda of the left, to be more conservative than himself.

One who fully recognizes the unbreakable link and necessity between high moral values and economy, and high moral values and freedom is likely a real conservative.

We shall see how this all unfolds -

“he was a stronger voice for conservatism than his boss.”

I hope you are joking. Chenney came out for gay marriage back when Hillary and Obama were still against it. He also said that budget deficits didn’t matter. As far as I know he is not a conservative on any issue.

The GOP might be able to peel off more than just a few votes from the younger generation. The millennials hate Hillary.

Joni supplies the Jang to Trump's Yin.

Consider, Trump doesn't need the VP to do anything other than to help get him elected. Trump can get his own Valerie Jarrett later, but leadership will be on Trump's shoulders.

Gingrich as Chief of staff will enable Trump to achieve his goals. No one know DC better than Gingrich. He know the players and the dark secrets that Trump can prod his enemies in order to win the argument.

I always thought Rand should have always been in the top 5 in the debate line up. He’s sharp and a pragmatist.
