The overwhelming majority of Americans believe the economy is rigged.

Seventy-one percent think the U.S. economic system is "rigged in favor of certain groups," according to a new poll by Marketplace and Edison Research.

The poll asked a simple question: Which of the following comes closer to your opinion on the economic system in the U.S. People could select between three options:

1. The economic system is rigged in favor of certain groups 2. The economy system is fair to all Americans 3. Don't know

Most selected rigged economy. It didn't matter if the person was white, black or Hispanic or whether they identified as Republican, Democrat or Independent. The majority feel the American Dream comes with huge asterisk that reads "only for the favored few."

No wonder the "rigged economy" has become one of the biggest talking points on the 2016 campaign trail. Bernie Sanders may have started it, but Donald Trump now uses that exact term and Hillary Clinton talks often about how she'll help those "left behind."

Why Americans feel this way

Americans have good reason to think this way. The typical middle class family is earning a....

i didn’t read the whole article but coming from CNN, I guarantee they covered for the real rig is for big government, federal workers, 30% of which are African, and a tax code which takes 50% of our income. Look at the deficit, as the rigged economy buries our children and grandchildren in debt.

I am going to be a nitpicker for a moment.

Trump came out of the gate taking about the need for a wall between Mexcico and USA.
Trumps platform was copied by the other 17 Republican candidates.
I think Bernie copied Trumps tactic of explaining the mess we are in and the path to a better future.

IMO, people miss a BIG part of this debate (should be brought up FIRST, then solidified w/ the facts you present): all wholly unconstitutional in a myriad of ways.

Be that the ‘lawful’ 16th flying in the face of the 4th, 5th, 13th. Fedzilla and 5/9/10/13th...

Unfortunately, even the easiest case of “if you ‘own’ your home, try not paying property taxes and see what you ‘own’” will get deer-in-headlights reaction.

They must be taught so they learn that individual debt is destructive to the personal freedom that can allow them to accomplish their goals. Such freedom does not depend on government.

The point of the CNN article is to blame capitalism in a veiled attempt to promote more big government socialism/communism.

The head of GE gets put on Obama’s jobs council.
GE is relived of all federal taxes.
GE’s profit margin goes way up.
Then they move jobs out of the US.

Oh no, nothing rigged there.

Unfortunately, 47% of the voters think the solution is to get free stuff from the government to compensate for the disparity.

...47% of the voters think the solution is to get free stuff...

Or maybe it's 48%.  29% anyone?  How about 85%?  Nothing wrong w/ making up poll numbers, it's what everyone does!

Of course it’s rigged!!! Thrift, hard work, discipline, continuous learning about your company and its customers - those things pay off over the long term every time they’re tried.

But who wants to do those boring things? That ain’t no fun!!

This is NOT good news.

It just means increasing numbers will continue to vote for the Bernies and Lieawathas of the world to “make things fair”.

K Street and Wall Street have only themselves to blame.
Reap the Whirlwind fellas.

The other 29% do not understand our economy, nor can they spell economy. They are the locked in voters for the rats, like their parents and grandparents who voted for FDR until he died.

Unfortunately, many of them continue to vote for the rats after they die, like their parents and grandparents.
