To my mind, they are like ragheads. They seem peaceable and trustworthy, until they snap, revert to their true type, and DO what they've been bred to do for centuries. Where do you think the name PITbull came from? The PIT where the dogfights were staged! Where did the saying, "That shirt is so ugly, I wouldn't wear it to a dogfight," came from? Nobody knows. 😊

How the dogs are raised may have a lot to do with it. Being stereotypically expected to be mean, they are treated by some folks in an abusive way, to encourage them to be mean. A comparison of them with other dogs of similar size and strength and “upbringing” would be necessary to fairly evaluate the risk.
