Insurance Company’s didn’t put up much of a fuss against the law, I’m sure they helped write it. How did they get it so wrong? Were they threatened? Failure inches us closer to full on socialized medicine which may have been the plan all along and would decimate the Ins. Industry. Scratching head

I'm sorry to hear about your grand-daughter's situation. I trust that with your input all that's possible is being done to keep her as well as possible.

The mathematician in me goes crazy with so many medications being given without any knowledge at all of long-term effects or of extra dangers that occur because these medications react with each other.

It makes no sense for contraception to be free - no copays - while patients have copays for insulin and heart medications.

If the government had left the phone company and its regulations the way they were we would all still be tied to a wall by a tether to a black plastic clunker of a phone. Phone booths would be everywhere and now they would take credit cards as nobody could carry enough quarters to make a call.

_____________

I am not sure that it would have been a totally bad thing.

My BCBS premiums went through the roof two years in a row. Switched to Aetna (about 10K a year for basically a catastrophic individual policy) and just learned they are pulling out of the market in this area.

Back to the drawing board yet again. People are being priced out of the individual market by design. Wouldn’t do any better on an exchange as I wouldn’t qualify for a subsidy.

May explore some of the Christian based co-op options. In about a year, I can go on Medicare, but who knows what that will look like in the future.

Destroying the evil insurance industry was just one of the liberals' goals for ObamaCare.

This development is surprising, only in that some folks are just now figuring this out.

My daughter had to get the Gardasil vaccine in order to register for school. No registration, no attendance. No attendance means truancy charges and fines or imprisonment.

Obama on single payer “we may not get there immediately”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpAyan1fXCE

there’s another quote where he says it may take 20 years but that is the ultimate plan.

No, I not allowed any input. Has a know it all mother, who doesn’t know it all. She is on the Lawsuit list as RA is progressive. She is a model beautiful sweet child with a now ruined life. Went from taking an occasional Tylenol to a arsenal of drugs to control the pain with all their side effects. She has good and bad days and is not a whiner.

I’m the side effect queen, and avoid most meds. Even the stupid fillers can be a issue. They have tried to put me on Lyrica or Neurontin is (gabapentin) both are very addictive and have tons of side effects, vs the two 10 mg of Valium I take for Fibromyalgia..FMS.

I have no love for the medical profession, they don’t listen any more. 5 min ins docs is what you are now getting who don’t know their field or stray out of it and tell patients based on a test every 3 months they now have diabetes...not taking into account the 1000 mg of C taken 1.5 hrs before a blood draw. Scipts for a worse to strong drug, with no A1C1 or Keytone testing, and no test meter. Had to force that issue, only 1 test strip per day. DUH, Type 2 son test 4 times a day or more, who says my readings sans the C are NORMAL due to slow digestion issues, IDIOT for a PCP.

“Regulation does improve product safety.”

In some cases yes, in other cases probably not or it may even have a negative result. Some machinery I have seen is so overloaded with safety circuits that it is nearly impossible to operate which can cause an operator to become so frustrated as to create more dangers than it solves. As a boy growing up on a farm I worked in conditions that would never be allowed by any government official now but we knew the dangers and took precautions, I and my brothers are still all in one piece and so were both my parents up until their deaths. Most of the serious accidents I have known of have been the result of operator failure to look out for number one. One of my brothers was nearly killed at work when a cover was left off a drain and a wheel on a heavy cart dropped into the hole and turned it over on him. Another was nearly killed when a zero turn lawnmower turned upside down on him. The regulations required all kinds of safety features on the mower but overlooked the really dangerous part. It was so light on the front that it would not go forward up even a slight grade without flipping end over end. I have seen many of the smaller zero turn mowers so light on the front that I at age 72 can very easily lift the front end with one hand. I did it with a Snapper mower belonging to an old friend of mine with him sitting on the mower just to make him aware. Even with all the government regulations there are still government approved death traps.

Sorry that happened to the granddaughter. Its hard to say what instigated both RA & Fibromy. There could be no correlation between the 2 things. Autoimmune disease is very strange and multifaceted with too many unknowns. That is one of the more frustrating aspects when dealing with them.

My daughter got juvenile RA when she was 3. Each type has different symptoms. Hers also caused iritis that can also cause blindness if not treated. These things can go away as quickly as they appear, as did my daughters after a few years. The iritis lingered for 12-14 years, but finally went away too.

Hope your GD has a similar good outcome. You may want to look into reduced carb diet with no wheat products for the digestive issues.

I still cannot believe how many young people and some not so young, believed eight years ago that the government was going to give everyone in America FREE health care!

They still believe it. AND that they'll throw Free College into the deal.

Obamacare was designed to fail so Hillary can usher in single payer insurance.

Based on what I've always heard regurg'd by the unthinking leftist drones in my life, destroying Blue Cross Blue Shield has been a long term goal. At least with Fat Teddy's proposal in his presidential run in 1979-1980, he said, regarding his universal healthcare proposal, that he'd "let the Blues do it".

It was the large insurance companies in favor of this law and the ones who helped write it. Another version of using the government to get rid of competition through regulation. Big businesses have been doing that for decades in this country.

They charge way more than they used to and cover less.

I needed 3 hours of simple PT for a shoulder issue earlier this year. I didn't even use any fancy equipment. Treatment consisted of stretch bands, weights and manual manipulation by the therapist. I have insurance through my employer. The billed rate was close to $600 per hour for a total of $1800. The settled rate was ~$320 per hour. I paid $60 per hour for a total of $180 in co-pays. From what I can ascertain, my co-pays covered the salary of the physical therapist. The rest was to cover overhead and profit.

All the insurance companies saw was $$$ signs when this was being voted on. All those new young consumers being required to pay for Cadillac insurance policies and getting essentially hospitalization insurance and the youth said no thanks will pay the penalty.

Then the medicare patients started eating into the insurance companies profits. Short term the companies made money, but when obamacare really started being forced on America the money spigot dried up.

I look for BSBS, Humana, etc... to show up in Washington in the next few years with their hands out asking for a bailout. Hillary will spit in their faces and demand single payer. Trump may actually remove the burdens of obamacare providing the idiot Republicans in Congress get their collective heads out of the ass and play ball.
