Antivaccine activists gleefully attack and dox a 12-year-old boy who made a pro-vaccine video

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about the antivaccine movement, it’s that its members dislike being criticized. Oh, hell, let’s be honest. The really, really hate criticism and react very, very badly to it. Whereas you or I or other skeptics might react to criticism by trying to address it using facts, science, and reason, the first reaction of many antivaccine loons is to attack, attack, attack.

People and cattle both need vaccinations. Want to be fairly safe drinking raw milk produced by a clean and trusted neighbor? Make sure that the neighbor’s cows were vaccinated against bangs, and that the neighbor follows dairy sanitation regulations.

“When the government talks about “ideas so good they are mandatory” I click the safety off my pistol.”

Fitting. The original is a Nazi quote “”when I hear the word culture, I reach for my gun”.

>It’s a public health issue, not a private one.

Then take it up w/ Congress a/o your local elected-critter as they continue to allow ‘immigrants’ through our porous borders, ship said vectors to locals unknown (to said locals) and spread infections/critters/disease (many we HAD eradicated in this country).

IMO, I still fail to see where ‘promote the general welfare’ = usurping the choices/Freedom/Rights of any Citizen/parent/guardian.

“You challenge: “ Why did polio and other deadly diseases vanish in America? “

We stopped spraying lakes/ponds/ and neighborhoods- ie - swimming places - with DDT -”

You are utterly out of your league. But thank you for letting me understand your level of sophistication here. You see, polio had nothing to do with mosquitos. It was a disease of fecally contaminated water and spread with contact with that water, and from human to human. DDT had zip, zero, zilch to do with Polio.

I’m confused, yet again. I’m not pro-vaccination. Are we on the same side here ?

“I’m having trouble understanding this thread.”

Your mother and I were hoping to be able to wait until you were older to have this talk.

Poliovirus is usually spread from person to person through infected fecal matter entering the mouth. It may also be spread by food or water containing human feces and less commonly from infected saliva. Those who are infected may spread the disease for up to six weeks even if no symptoms are present. The disease may be diagnosed by finding the virus in the feces or detecting antibodies against it in the blood.

The disease is preventable with the polio vaccine; however, a number of doses are required for it to be effective. The United States Center for Disease Control recommends polio vaccination boosters for travelers and those who live in countries where the disease is occurring. Once infected there is no specific treatment. In 2013 polio affected 416 people down from 350,000 cases in 1988. In 2014 the disease was only spreading between people in Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan. In 2015 Nigeria had stopped the spread of wild poliovirus.

Poliomyelitis has existed for thousands of years, with depictions of the disease in ancient art. The disease was first recognized as a distinct condition by Michael Underwood in 1789 and the virus that causes it was first identified in 1908 by Karl Landsteiner. Major outbreaks started to occur in the late 19th century in Europe and the United States. In the 20th century it became one of the most worrying childhood diseases in these areas. The first polio vaccine was developed in the 1950s by Jonas Salk. It is hoped that vaccination efforts and early detection of cases will result in global eradication of the disease by 2018. In 2013, however, there were reports of new cases in Syria and in May 2014, the World Health Organization declared a public health emergency of international concern due to outbreaks of the disease in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. The disease does not naturally occur in any other animals...

I’m being cordial. If you wish to take this conversation to the level to which you are going - Please just let me know.

You decide. We can talk like reasonable people, or I can dominate whatever attempts you have to lash out against me.

I’m your huckleberry.

“Polio gets reintroduced by immigration, “

Now how would THAT make any difference? Throughout this thread I have been lectured that people who aren’t vaccinated do not carry or spread disease. All the unvaccinated immigrants shouldn’t make a bit of difference.

The truth is that anti-vaxxers are welfare free riders. Enjoying disease eradication provided by everyone else.
And they magically believe that immigrants carry disease from parts of the world where the diseases still rage. And they never stop to ask why the disease never went away in those countries, and why the unvaccinated immigrants carry it.

There’s a lot of disconnect there.

“local elected-critter as they continue to allow ‘immigrants’ through our porous borders, ship said vectors to locals unknown (to said locals) and spread infections/critters/disease (many we HAD eradicated in this country).”

So... “immigrants” have these diseases. And the spread them here where they HAD been eradicated. Now tell me, what is different about these immigrants. Gosh, there MUST be something they don’t do in Mexico and Pakistan that we did here.
Wonder what it could be?? lol

It’s interesting, isn’t it, how many freedom supporters there are who pooh-pooh “settled science” until it comes to the “settled science” of vaccines.

As opposed to the settled science on vaccines, just like the climate change settled science, right?

I know the interwebs are kinda scary, and not everyone is nice and polite. It’ll be ok.

Gun violence research shows your children are at risk with guns in the home. Better get rid of them because you have young ones in the home.
