Top IT official: Disabling security for Clinton server laid out 'welcome mat' for hackers

A 2010 decision temporarily disabling State Department security features to accommodate Hillary Clinton’s private server effectively laid out a "welcome mat" for hackers and foreign intelligence services, a leading IT official who oversaw computer security at the Defense Intelligence Agency told Fox News.

"You're putting not just the Clinton server at risk but the entire Department of State emails at risk," said Bob Gourley, former chief technology officer (CTO) for the DIA. "When you turn off your defensive mechanisms and you're connected to the Internet, you're almost laying out the welcome mat for anyone to intrude and attack and steal your secrets."

He was referring to revelations from new court-released documents in a lawsuit by conservative watchdog Judicial Watch. They show the State Department temporarily turned off security features in 2010 so that emails from then-Secretary of State Clinton's personal server would stop going to the department's spam folders.

Gourley, who has more than two decades of cybersecurity experience and is now a partner with strategic consulting and engineering firm Cognitio, noted the Russians did breach the State Department system at some point – though it’s unclear when, and whether disabling the security functions in 2010 played a role.

He said, though, that when the Russian presence was detected in 2014, there were indications “they had been there for quite a while … [and] also hacked into unclassified systems in the White House.” He said the Russians would have tried “everything possible to get in.”

Top IT official: Disabling [State Department computer] security for Clinton server laid out 'welcome mat' for hackers

No Mitt, Sherlock.

The discredited Media will NOT be all over this. One, because they're ALL Hillary @sslampeys. And two, because they're ignorant dolts who don't understand computers.

No, she’s just scum.
She wanted control over the email so she could do her wheeling and dealing and not be subject to email preservation and FOIA. The morons on her staff couldn’t figure out how to do things the right way so they turned things off- that’s another example of just not caring about other people or your country. The only thing they cared about was convenience and themselves.

This should be the nail in Hillary’s coffin. It proves once and for all with one fell swoop she and the gummint lie. The gummint DID know she was doing it. She had tacit approval as the gummint HELPED HER do it, to our detriment. And on and on. Bammy has only poor choices. Fail to prosecute and his party suffers as the winners write history so Zero will join and out distant Nixon for being synonymous with corruption. Prosecuting HER leads to HIM. Pardoning her leaves him open to prosecution while indemnifying her. 3 options, all bad so he dithers which is what he does best. Dithering in hopes of a fourth option presenting itself is dangerous. Manufacturing a fourth option is risky if it backfires, think Fast and Furious.

Zero is in an unenviable position of his own making and as the days count down prospects get worse and worse. I do hope he enjoyed all the Air Force One, lobster, and Kobi beef because the piper is gonna be paid.

Can’t they hire Sandy Burger to just go into those computers and stuff all the emails down his pants to get rid of them?

"You're putting not just the Clinton server at risk but the entire Department of State emails at risk"

Everyone who was involved in approving, condoning, or participating in disabling State Department security features to accommodate Hillary Clinton’s private server, should be arrested, charged, tried, convicted, and sentenced to be publicly hanged for giving aid and comfort to the enemy. They are all traitors to the United States of America.

You would think that she wanted someone to hack her emails. It sounds like a variation on the "dead drop" used by spies, where one agent leaves whatever he wishes to transfer in a secure location for another agent to pick up.

You are so right. Since the beginning of this, I have suspected that her server was set up to be a “dead drop” for information that others would pay large sums to get, while she and her people could claim innocence.

“Incompetent”

The Clinton’s have been an open book regarding how they view the world and America’s role and place in it. From the first day in office, Bill Clinton was already figuring out how to “sell” the U.S.. He gave us a peek when he sent missile technology to China and took Chinese money for his re-election. Early on he told us that China would be the strongest country in the world.

So why would a man who feels this way, not be bothered by “selling” our assets? And why would it surprise anybody to hear that Hillary offered State secrets on the table for the highest bidder? Why did they allow Russian billionaires to control 20% the U.S. uranium mining for $145 million? And why is their foundation focused everywhere around the world Except the U.S.?

Take these issues and the 100’s of other examples of the grifting these two have done to America, and add her plan to open our borders even more than they are now and look at the “Deal” we gave Iran; is it a stretch to get to the reality that they don’t care if the U.S. is a sovereign, bordered nation?

Is it too much to ask the question...What if their plan is to steal America!!!!

Could be the most important film to see for our generation. It comes out in July.

In effect, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ordered State Department inbound email filters completely disabled because her private email wasn’t getting though to state department employees who were using their legally required .gov email addresses, and the Secretary of State’s State Department IT employees couldn’t figure out how to make special inbound exceptions for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ‘s illegal private email addresses.

As a consequence, State Department IT systems became almost defenseless against malicious emails.

Still, I think compromising national security is a very small price to pay for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton using an illegal email address to avoid Freedom of Information requests, don’t you?

It doesn’t take a genius to deduce that Hillary intentionally put our national security secrets out in plain sight, expressly so they COULD be stolen by those who’d paid her and her husband millions of dollars in ‘donations’.

The woman is an abject traitor, and should already be in federal prison for what she’s done.

“State Department IT systems became almost defenseless”

What’s worse is that State employees voluntarily left their systems open to accommodate her “secret” system. The indictment list should be long and deep.
