Those fees are too high!
In Iowa, I just paid $25 for a 5-year renewal. Good for the state and more than thirty other states.
First time application is only $50.

The State Legislature, in their wisdom, REDUCED the fee to a flat five year one charge of $500.00 from $125.00 a year.
The CHL requestor still has to obtain their OWN passport photographs, and pay the State Police to run their fingerprints.
(I don’t know those costs, because a Parish/County CHL is done by that sheriff’s office. I’m a former federal employee, so my prints are on file, as well as my former security clearances, both federal and military. The $10.00 covers the cost of the CHL ID card.)
