FRANCE today told Britain to appoint a new prime minister within “a few days” and to immediately quit the EU by soon triggering Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty.

Speaking in Berlin following a meeting of the six founding member states of the EU, French foreign minister Jean-Marc Ayrault told the UK not to play a “cat and mouse” game following the historic Brexit vote.

He said: “Of course a new prime minister must be appointed, that will probably require a few days but this is quite urgent.

90% ? of commerce is through the tunnel rather than by ship. Closing the tunnel is a non-starter when you must import food.

My thoughts, exactly. That whole sovereignty thing seems to have escaped him. I wish the Queen would break with decorum just this once and tell him to shut it.

‘Orders’ was the word chosen by Daily Express editor. What France was saying is that now that Britain has chosen to exit it shouldn’t delay with starting the actual procedures.

This is what the left-wing Guardian reported -

“A new prime minister must be designated, that will take a few days,” he said, adding that it would “not be respectful” to delay the process.

I think Boris is really saying that a new govt. needs to be installed in Westminister since they will be the negotiating team. Since the process takes two years minimum a few more months won't make much difference and changing negotiators in mid-stream is never good.

Boris is being very naive if he truly believes that delaying Article 50 is a good idea.

Delay too long and the the “stay” camp (which Cameron is a part of) will find a way to invalidate the vote. Cameron is mostly stalling at this point and hoping that the 4 month delay will be painful enough to change the outcome.

I’m not saying the trade deals being with countries in the EU. Maybe it’s time for the Brits to change their attitude about Russia. What about Argentina? etc.

I'm sure that Britain already trades with Russia under conditions Russia negotiated with the EU. She may be able to continue those with Russia separately. As for Argentina I think the whole Falklands issue would get in the way.

And if they don’t trigger Article 50? What then?

Then they don't leave the EU. And at least 52% of the British electorate would be after their heads.

The world is changing. You have to think outside the box. Russia was punished by the EU for having the nerve to stop a bogus revolution from spreading into ethnically Russian parts of Ukraine. The Brits were all in for supporting that Ukrainian mess. Maybe it’s time for countries that value their independence and culture to band together, but with one-to-one deals that benefit both countries.

I won’t believe the Brexit will happen until they actually go through with article 50. The drive to world government is too strong so I will not be surprised to see Parliament drag its feet in not triggering it.

There is already a push for a second referendum that will have to be debated in Parliament because there are two million that have signed on to the petition for such.

That is exactly why France is right and Britain should not waste 4 months sitting around. That kind of doing nothing is shaking the faith in democracy everywhere.

Good point. I hadn't looked at it that way, but it is akin to Mexico using us the same way.
