As congressional Democrats spent the week pressing for the passage of new gun control legislation, violent felons in Virginia were able to take steps towards having their right to own a firearm restored thanks to action taken by the states Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe.
When McAuliffe restored the voting rights for 206,000 felons in a move critics say was politically motivated, he also opened the door for those felons to have their right to own a firearm restored.
Previously, felons would individually have to petition the executive branch to have their civil rights restored. Petitioners would have to fill out an application to the secretary of the commonwealth and submit a letter to the governor explaining why they deserve to have their rights restored.
Decisions were made on a case-by-case basis. This was abandoned when McAuliffe restored the rights for both violent and nonviolent felons, eliminating the need for any application.

Obama can help.
Sure. If their debt to society is paid, why not?
Prior to the Gun Control Act of 1968 this was the case and America was just fine.
And remember, most "felons" out there are people who were caught with small quantities of drugs for personal use.
Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe Hillary’s butt buddy now that Vince Foster is gone...
Yep. Huge difference between someone who cheated on their income tax and a someone who robbed, murdered or raped. They may all be felons, but they aren’t the same.
If a circuit court judge were to enter a blanket order restoring gun rights to all 206,000 felons, do you think the judge would be praised for his forward thinking like the governor? Do you think the judge would be praised as a civil rights maverick, like the governor?
the right of the people to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED
Violent felons should be done and gone... No need to owna gun in hell

Are all felons violent as the head lines states?
words have meanings...................
I agree with your list there.
One thing that stands out incredibly, is that at the same time the Left is probably sympathetic to prison felons getting their gun rights back, they are doing their damnedest to take them away from the law-abiding.
Give them their “rights.” The rest of us will settle the issue if they raise their fists, knives, ball bats, or guns against us. So says the Second Amendment, very firmly. That’s why we choose to carry and defend, rather than whimper and submit.
Trump will win Virginia as well.
No gun rights of ANYone can be expanded
A right is a right is a right
The GCA of 1968 deemed it legal to remove ANY felon (no matter the degree) from owning a gun ... period
If a felon is restored, he has not had an expansion, just a restoration
I agree that if a felon has served his time and paid any fines, he should be welcomed back into American society
It's stickier with pedaphilic sex criminals, but if any crime is serious enough, the time in prison should be serious enough so that once you're out, you're more likely to want to protect that freedom than to throw it away
Trouble is violent felons almost always return to their former occupations. I don’t believe there should be any gun laws.None. At one time there weren’t any. I’d have to check the stats on the amount of gun crime(John Lotts book, got ‘round here somewhere) say one hundred years ago. It’s like anything in this rapidly evolving police state. A War On Drugs creates more drugs, a War On Poverty created more of it. Gun control laws seem only to inhibit the law abiding as criminals, by their nature, don;’t observe the law.
Most men, when they are sentenced to prison, are straight. After a term, they become bisexual. They get clean laundry, decent food, steady sex, many use drugs, free medical care. So what are they missing when they are in prison?
