Had it not been an election year, they would have gladly accepted his request to wait until October.
The People's Republic of Philadelphia will no doubt put in someone sufficiently crooked to take his place.

How does Alce Hastings hold office? Any body know. He was convicted of taking bribes as a federal judge and impeached in the Senate? What is up there?

Well at least this corrupt clown had the decency to resign.
As for the Hildabeast...no such luck.

He was impeached by the House and convicted in the Senate.
But his district is overwhelmingly black, and he markets himself as a proud victim of The Man.

No doubt his district will replace him with someone as crooked or worse.

The penalty for Impeachment can include, but does not necessarily include prohibition from holding an office of trust. When the Senate impeached and convicted Hastings, it chose to limit the penalty to removal from the judiciary. Hastings criminal conviction does not bar him from holding office.
Fatah's conviction likewise does not disqualify him from elected office. It's up to the body to decide whether to admit a person who was elected, and obviously, being a criminal is not a bar to holding elected office. Each body takes each case, on an individual basis. Double standards abound.

Convicted, then resigns?
That’s mighty white of him...

Of course. He was not expelled from the House. He left voluntarily after years of faithful public service. As far as the House is concerned, he's clean as a whistle.

Chaka Fattah (D-Pa.) is resigning effective immediately, he announced Thursday, after initially seeking to remain in Congress despite his conviction on corruption charges. "In my previous letter I indicated a later resignation date in order to provide for an orderly transition of my office after 21 years in the House...However, out of respect for the entire House Leadership, and so as not to cause a distraction from the House's work for the people, I have changed my effective date." Fattah first submitted his resignation on Wednesday, but said he would remain in office and collect a salary until Oct. 1 to ensure "proper transmission of information and archiving of government documents after more than two decades in service."
So, when does he start his new job -- either his own 'news' show, or with the Hillary planta- er, campaign, or, in the Obama administration. Perhaps Zero will try to appoint him to the Supreme Court.

Collectivism cannot suffer individuals who can either resist or flee. That’s why they are so determined to disarm everyone.

He was primaried out in April. The first incumbent booted out in 2016.
To: Publius
He was impeached by the House and convicted in the Senate.
The Senate neglected to ban him from holding future Federal office as part of his removal.

What was Chaka’s birth name?
