Busted her tail to earn her degree, and has worked just as hard during her brief tenure as a teacher since.
Whenever she goes on a job interview it is overrun with literally hundreds of candidates like this guy. Often as not the job goes to someone who is a relative of one of the school board members.
The point is, good and dedicated teachers should not be in direct competition with political hacks and hopeless schmucks.
There’s a huge over-supply of credentialed teachers, here in Canada. For every employed teacher, there’s (almost) another certified teacher without a teaching job. It’s a hyper-competitive market.
However, the skills taught in teachers college are very marketable outside the school system. That Education degree is probably worth two humanities degrees.
