There’s a huge over-supply of credentialed teachers, here in Canada. For every employed teacher, there’s (almost) another certified teacher without a teaching job. It’s a hyper-competitive market.
However, the skills taught in teachers college are very marketable outside the school system. That Education degree is probably worth two humanities degrees.
In Texas, the most important skill is bilingual Spanish. That will land a teaching job just about anywhere. And there are always plenty of jobs in the urban districts while jobs are hard to come by in the middle class suburbs. I notice they don’t say where he taught, but if he taught near where he lived, it was probably one of the better districts.
