Mr. DeAnda, the hero, was evidently classified as a patient because he was examined by a medical team at the scene. And so he got a bill. As the old saying goes, no good deed goes unpunished.

The title of the article is now “This Good Samaritan Was Billed After Helping a Family in a Car Crash”.

But that wasn’t the title when I first read the article.

And people wonder why others do nothing to help those in trouble? We as a society reap what we sow.

BTW, if I were Derrick, I would package up 2 bottles of water (same brand and size as received of course) and send them as payment for services and materials rendered, and I would ask for a 143.00 tax deduction receipt, for the extra bottle of water.

What’s worse is that people who stop and rescue others are sometimes later sued by the people they rescued...after a bleepity-bleep “Injury Attorney” gets to them. I’ve known women that were nurses who had actually been told by their hospital employers to NEVER stop at the scene of an accident and render aid because of that. The world went to Hades a long time ago.

Just say his back was hurt by the medical team and sue them for $10 million.

In California only the illegal aliens get anything free.

I’d appeal it by rubbing the bill over my a$$ and mailing it back to them, telling them to scratch and sniff..... And note to self, use an alias whenever talking to a government employee.

So I guess this is how Good Samaritans are treated when they stop at an accident scene to help somebody.

Or they don't.

That’s the liberal mentality in action in California.

Do something good and you get punished.

Come to DC and you’ll see this same policy in action but 100 times worse. However, we scream and yell like hell when that happens and many of the liberal chickenshit bureaucrats back off. They just issue more traffic and parking tickets to make up for the loss.

City of Dallas (TX) immediately sends the account to an out of state collector - they don’t even bill their victims first. And, of course, the Fire Department is ‘out of network’ so the insurance pays almost nothing, and they can charge whatever they want.

If you care about someone, don’t call 911. You are just setting them up for some significant financial pain.

The taxes for fire rescue are sky high, yet it still isn’t enough.

If you are stopped at a light, and somebody jumps out and washes your windshield, do you owe the somebody anything?

Local gov’t doesn’t care about the circumstances or the situation, all they see/process is completely in black and white. So I’m not surprised he got a bill. It was someone who was proverbially “just doing my job”. It still stinks, though.
