If you are trying to draw a parallel, it doesn't work. Every time a person approaches the TSA, a background check is performed. The test at that point is simple, on the list, or not on the list. Same is true with the NICS system. On the list, or not.
Whether you are on the list or not isn't the objective. The objective is that the public conclude that it is appropriate to submit to a check, or be denied. Essentially, to accept that government permission or approval be required to participate.

I agree but the republicans let the democrats set the slogan about terrorist allowed guns by GOP. GOP never should have let that go without fighting that slogan. I can’t imagine any American wanting a terrorist to have a weapon. But as always the GOP dropped the ball on message.
If the gun control lobby were given everything they now claim they want, there would be another shooting maybe this time with evil “sniper rifles” (typical bolt action scoped hunting rifles) and the screams for “sensible gun control” would resume... Or it would be handguns, or whatever.
The end goal is a total gun ban, and any gun control advocate that truly understands the subject would admit that if they were honest.
That should be the kiss of death right there.
