..We have the same Protestant work ethic as the Germans. We enjoy the same things, such as brass bands, rambling and driving German cars. We both consider the sausage the height of culinary sophistication. We prefer beer to wine. And guess which country has taken over from Germany as having the worst reputation for reserving sun loungers with towels? Thats right, us, according to a survey for Travel Supermarket. Imitation? Flattery?
We both love rules, prudence, and ironic, self-deprecating humour of the kind personified by Henning Wehn, the darling of Radio 4 comedy, who wears a stopwatch to time his routines.
..Not only do we import more goods from Germany than any other country, but they gave us our town planning, our Christmas rituals and even our welfare system (it was Bismarcks idea originally). In return we gave them some of our words, such as schadenfreude, angst and zeitgeist. And to my astonishment, on my most recent visit to Berlin I cant get enough of the place I watched a cricket match played in the grounds of the Olympic stadium, between two German sides wearing whites.
Above all, we are Anglo-Saxons. The Germanic tribes were here way before the Normans. And geneticists from UCL have analysed tooth enamel and bones in Anglo-Saxon cemeteries and concluded that half of us have German forebears. Half. No wonder 400,000 Germans live here. They feel at home.
Even our royal family has traditionally been German, dating back to George I, who couldnt speak English. And with the exception of George VI, every monarch since has taken a German consort. And if you are thinking: but isnt the Duke of Edinburgh known as Phil the Greek? Well, yes he is, but Phil Schleswig-HolsteinSonderburg-Glücksburg would be a more accurate nickname.

So a "circle" for Germanic nations:England, Norway, Saxony, Frisia etc
Another one for Latin nations, another for west slavic, another for south slavic etc.
And instead of world wars, we’ll just have civil wars.
How has that worked for you in the past?
Who are you speaking to?
I don’t know what form of voting they use in GB, but you can bet some of America’s very best, very best vote fixers that is, are over there “assisting and advising” the supporters of staying in the EU. Bet on it.
Are the Greeks really “Romanic”? I’d make that a separate color.
Also, should probably hatch NW Spain, NW France and Cornwall with green.
Funny how Turkey is missing. Some consider it European, some don’t. It was a Greek/Armenian stronghold...until those Turks ‘immigrated’.
Germans are Germans, ve Vikings know we are Vikings, not Huns.
vell, ze Vikings speak a north Deutsch tongue. Zo ve shud keep zem in the same bucket or put them in a zeparate Scandia bucket :)
All that blood, sweat and tears for naught.
West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer once said that there are three kinds of Germans--the wine drinkers of the west, the beer drinkers of the south and the schnapps drinkers of the north and east. He said that only the wine drinkers (like himself) were sober enough to run the country.
“A true German can’t stand the French, but their wine he gladly drinks.”

There are jokes that the EU is Greater Germany, just the stealthy way to try to conquer Europe through creeping rules and regulation and financial controls imposed by Brussels and Germany.
To be fair, the french and British pushed the Germans into many of the EU rules and institutions. For instance the Euro was the deal that Mitterand struck with Helmut Kohl allowing German re-unification. the French and English and others thought that the increasing european union would contain Germany
They still have that immigrant problem! That should be the first issue! Get rid of this false image that muslims are what the Europeans need!!

What Hitler couldn’t keep together, liberalism has.
