There are two or three things going on.
  1. The economy is bad due to decades of so-called free trade which devasted our industries and which continues.
  2. Marriage has become a very risky endeavor. And the court system incents troubled couples to strike first and strike hard. By insisting on winners and losers, both financially and with the kid's times, the court system encourages bitterness making reconciliation less likely.
  3. We've let gays run roughshod and I suspect they've gotten to and converted a larger percent of our children than in the past.
  4. We have a general moral decay.

That is probably more demographics than economic; many non-white-or-Asian people know the freebies they get for breeding bastards is much more than they could ever actually pay for.

The same holds true for non-working adults; as whites disappear expect that number to skyrocket even if the REAL unemployment rate is 1%. Much of the urban population has NO work ethic at all (regardless of skin color); they think people who work are deranged suckers.

The “adult children” have romantic interests; they just don’t include marrying, breeding, or creating a new household. If they do, they know the employers have them over a barrel (if they even decide to keep the jobs here or allow Americans to work them); instead, they just prolong childhood into middle age, then on to old age. I work with several people like this; they are all within ten years of retirement now.

More “kids “ live at home longer than ever BECAUSE THEY ARE LAZY AND WORTHLESS. As long as mommy lets them live in the basement and hit the bong all day why would they get out?

I have a 24 year old son who owns his own home. I notice that a lot of his buddies still live at home.

I remember back in the 60’s when my mom and lot of other moms got mad when their 21 and 22 year old children moved out of the house and rented their own apartment.

True.

Been a long time in the making and lots of blame to go around.

That’s absurd; my children aren’t adults yet, but I see them get what work they can and it is horrible out there. Kids are competing with middle-aged adults (and older) desperate for health insurance (many real jobs left NJ years ago, and they aren’t coming back). I certainly wouldn’t pressure them to jump into a mortgage when we haven’t even hit bottom yet in terms of the Greater Depression; they see the “For Sale” signs everywhere, and kids playing in the vacant & foreclosed homes - every one of them a sad story for some family...

And population-wise, the average family is smaller, so there are only one or two kids per family TO live at home.

why government of course. It’s likely 25-30% of the total economy from a jobs standpoint by now...

I have two in their twenties.

One lived at home for three months after college. She now lives in a state across the country. She is struggling, but she’s only asked for help once. She has three jobs, plus she is working as an artist in residence.

The other one lives at home, but she is getting married in October. She is a Parmedic, working two jobs. He is a State Trooper and an Army reserve Captain.

There are a lot of Snowflakes out there. It is actually making it easy for my kids to kick their butts in the real world.

Obamacare destroyed millions of full time jobs and placed the workers on less than 29 hours per week.

Some of the major urban areas, like the one I live just outside of, are impossibly expensive....2 bedroom 1 bath apartmenst running over 3k a month. Run down 1950 capes & ranch homes going for 700k. I’m not surprised to see these stats.

Unless you are retired and your children are 30+ and want to live on your dime.

Government subsidization of housing with tax deductions and college cost with grants and loans have distorted the market in both resulting in ever higher college costs and now housing bubble 2.0. How can kids out of college afford rent or a mortgage when they’re paying down huge student loans?

As usual, government “solutions” cause greater problems.

Obama: Best. Economy. Ever.

He says that because this is what he wants.

Yeah, I guess the warsaw ghetto really was a great place, with this kind of logic.

Living together because you are poor and the economy sucks and you cant get out of your situatuon is not a good reason to live together.

Living together because you want to and you are all doing well, is a completely different and much better thing.

Or did I miss the /sarc here?

Aside from the obvious financial reasons of living in a socialist country, part of what allows this to happen is “daycare guilt” coming home to roost.

There is construction all over the place in NC.

If the snowflakes had a work ethic they could be out in weeks.

We just rented our home to three 20 year old ladies. One is a neighbor I’ve known since she was a toddler and she was determined to get out of her parents house. (Her mother’s housekeeping is awful.) She graduated as valedictorian. But instead of taking the 4 year worthless degree path, she obtained a two year culinary degree (in a “foodie” major city).

Contrast that to my 40 year old brother-in-law who has never had a job. EVER. He’s an artist who dates an art history major for 10 years with no proposal. They both live off an allowance from her mother. I’m waiting for mommy to cut them off and have their world come crashing down.
