It’s not just the availability of generation capacity, it’s also about the lack of growth in the power grid to deliver it. I’m glad I live in Texas where we have our own power grid that is not connected to the rest of the country.

should expect to be without power a total 14 days

someone's not doing a very good job. Californians would be ok with it if you say

should expect to fight global warming for a total 14 days

It's all in the wording. They'll be pissed when it happens either way. But they can be happy and smug until it happens. And their phones and internet won't work as it happens so you won't need to listen to them whine about doing their part in the fight to save the planet.

Real-time graphs of electric power demand/supply in California, emergency conservation alerts, etc. can be seen here:

California ISO—Today's Outlook

When I lived in California, I had this bookmarked. On hot days, it was interesting to watch the blue line approach the red line.

I wonder if they’re selling the power to Colorado. They’ve done that in the past. While there was a supposed shortage in Cali, complete with brown outs and black outs, the power was being sold to other places.

And then we learned of an illegal conspiracy that the participants laughed about at that time.

But, we gotta close down that nuke plant (that non-CO2 generating power source).

Oh, come on - everyone in California knows where electricy comes from.

It comes from that those dohickeys on the wall with with two sets of three pronged plugs.

And water comes from the faucet or water spout in your kitchen or bathroom.

That’s not entirely true. Texas CAN separate from the grid, but are usually connected nationally. Also, our grid is not as robust as you might think. A lot of the Golden Spread is not serviced by the state grid, but comes from NM and OK.

This must be why they just announced the brilliant decision to shut down Diablo Canyon reactor in 2025.......

I don’t know if any of you watch “Criminal Minds” but there were 2 episodes that were based on California rolling blackouts.

Starred Tim Curry who was VERY frightening.

Also Leonard Cohem music .

It used to be a great show.

10 years from now, it could be very bad for CA
Silicon Valley didn’t have enough power back 20 years ago.
I wonder if turning ON the new Apple campus will finally break the power grid for good.
