I’ll take a drunk shooting at a Jihadist over a sober Jihadist shooting at me any day of the week.

...the owner was running a bar with many potentially dangerous customers until the early hours of the morning in the first shall issue CC state, and yet the bar’s guards were not armed? does not the bar owner have at least a moral obligation to the safety of its patrons from armed intruders? i imagine this is discussed extensively somewhere else, and if so, i would welcome a pointer. (sorry not to be up to speed.)...

I think that whoever established a gun-free zone should be responsible for the security of everyone in it, both physical security, and should bear legal liability for whatever bad thing happens there. But, lets be certain we paint the target on the correct culprit here.

Why would the bar have responsibility? It is the state who established the gun-free zone. If the state had to pay for security in the vulnerable area they established, and were liable for damages caused by their gun-free zones, there would be a lot fewer of them.

If places with very restrictive carry laws had to pay the victims of muggers there would be a quick change in policies.

Aha. OK, as I understand you to mean, Florida outlaws all guns in a bar, even if carried by properly licensed guards.

OK. Excuse me for asking, but does this not eventually invite disaster upon the bar patrons? It seems very similar to a zoo that mixes carnivores with herbivores in the same pen, sharing space and water holes. I must be missing something. If this is accurate(?), I wonder how mere pieces of paper could ever be misconstrued by lawmakers and voters to protect bar patrons from predators of the human variety. (Sorry not to be up to speed on all this, just wondering.)

I seem to recall Florida as having a reputation for being relatively enlightened and forward-thinking in at least some manner after a string of robberies of tourists who by necessity flew in without weapons and then were compelled to advertise their lack of weapon by displaying rental car stickers on their rental cars. This seems like the opposite direction. Offhand, without metal detectors, secure perimeters, armed guards or police, and patdowns (eg such as courts typically have), bar patrons are not safe in Florida. I imagine that I must be missing something...

When you look into that, yes, except every bar, whorehouse, and casino, had several armed employees very visible to the crowd, usually on a floor above the crowd with rifles as well as a handgun.

I remember reading that in some old magazine while still in High School and getting interested enough to dig into it at the library. Technically, they were deputies but they only had authority within the place of business that hired them. IIRC, the Earps had to approve of who the business hired.

In my state, I can go into a bar with my gun, and I’ve often done so. I don’t drink, though. I just hang out and am the designated driver.

A better law would be that the ccw not be allowed to be drunk while carrying.

Dumb, dumb, dumb. They must be Republicans. “Gun free zones” are an invitation to lunatic murderers.

Apparently Mr. Trump did not mean patrons of the club should have had guns...just security & employees: https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/744838252369043456

I think the key is drinking and carrying.

Doesn’t have to extend to the drinkers - bouncers, designated drivers, etc., would be a good deal.

Apparently the Swiss don't have a problem with drinking and firearms:

The Swiss take their shooting very seriously. They have a long history of marksmanship, and rifle ranges dot the country side..........Perhaps the most noticeable difference between Swiss and American rifle ranges is the presence of alcohol. Beer and Wine are readily available at Swiss Ranges. It's not uncommon to start a bottle of wine before the days shooting, and to finish the bottle after the day's shooting has ended. Yet, Swiss Ranges remain largely accident free. The Feuerschützen in Basel has not had an accident in over 500 years.

"Not illegal in many states"

Is the NRA signalling they will back gun possession if not drinking, in these places?

I’ve posted it before but it bears repeating. The NRA is to gun owners what Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are to “black” people.

Yep, still a stupid post.

If you tip a glass, you need to park your guns. That said, every club employee should be sober, armed and trained to use them.

I am hoping we get ballistics reports and find out how many were killed by cops. Still doesn’t add up to me that one armed shooter killed and wounded over 100 people over the course of 3 hours.

In the case of Orlando
Do you want intoxicated people carrying?
Do you want people who are confused about their genders carrying?
Do you want people who choose a dangerous lifestyle carrying?

Armed licensed security?

Employees: bouncers, bartenders , DJ s all could be armed. They shouldn’t be drinking on the job and would at least have a chance of survival too
