Amid melting Arctic ice, Kerry sees looming climate catastrophe By Lesley Wroughton
ABOARD THE HDMS THETIS, Greenland Standing near Greenland's Jakobshavn glacier, the reputed source of the iceberg that sank the Titanic over a century ago, U.S Secretary of State John Kerry saw evidence of another looming catastrophe.
Giant icebergs broken off from the glacier seemed to groan as they drifted behind him, signaling eventual rising oceans that scientists warn will submerge islands and populated coastal region.
Briefed by researchers aboard a Royal Danish Navy patrol ship, Kerry appeared stunned by how fast the ice sheets are melting. He was struck by the more dire warnings he heard about the same process underway in more remote Antarctica.
"This has been a significant eye-opener for me and I've spent 25 years or more engaged in this issue," Kerry said on the deck of the ship with Danish Foreign Minister Kristian Jensen during a two-day visit that ended late on Friday.
Kerry made his first visit to this part of the Arctic to witness the effects of climate changes and press the need to implement the Paris climate accord. He has called it "the world's most fearsome weapon of mass destruction".

With ice melting and oceans rising, seems like a bad time to sell your yacht, John.
Maybe you think you need a bigger one?

So, did Kerry receive his degree in climatology when he was in Vietnam? Because you know he was in Vietnam, Right?

Have Kerry try it with ice in the stuff he must be drinking all day long to be this stupid...
To: Sub-Driver
Kerry is a f*ckin’ idiot.
Melting glaciers are a catastrophe but Islamic terrorism isn’t.
Got it.

And these Eco-Fascists always hedge their bets by predicting the looming crisis is going to be far enough in the future that we’ll all be dead, anyway.

North polar ice is already floating. It could all melt without any effect on sea levels.

Apparently our Secretary Of State has never seen summer in the Arctic.
We’re blessed with a fool.

If the ice pack was diminishing, and the sea-level was rising, theyd still be calling it global warming. Instead, they hedge their bets and call it climate change.
MAN-made climate change at that. Instead of something more "gender neutral" like human-made climate change. A lame attempt at subtle manipulation?

This is what needed to be highlighted.
"If Greenland's ice sheets all melted, that would raise sea levels by about 6 meters (20 feet) over thousands of years."
So. Big deal.

Is not there a provision in the Federal Codes providing for a Citizen’s Arrest of these flakes. This individual is long overdue for a treason trial.
To: exDemMom; Da Bilge Troll
You are correct about sea ice, it freezes and melts every year and does not affect sea level.
But ice bergs aren't created from sea ice. As the article points out, icebergs are created from glaciers, which are land ice.
It is the ice on land which, if it melts, will cause sea level rise. And the land ice that will melt first is the glacier ice, because it naturally flows into the oceans. Warming has the potential to speed up the glacier's rate of flow.

Mr. Kerry, please adhere to your job as secretary of state and plan the next Benghazi attack. Leave the meteorology task to the infamous meteorologist Al Gore. Thank you!
