Senate GOP Rebuffs Trump on Gun Control Call
News Max ^ | June 17, 2016

Donald Trump — already the bane of many establishment Republicans — is now in a new battle with the GOP rank-and-file over gun control measures.

The Washington Post reports that Trump's surprise call for congressional action on new gun-control legislation is getting the cold shoulder from his party and likely pit GOP lawmakers against their presumptive presidential nominee.

The new wrinkle comes as Capitol Hill tries to cope with calls for new gun laws in the wake of Sunday's attack in Orlando, in which a gunman with terrorist allegiances killed 49 people and injured 53 at a crowded nightclub.

Sen. Jeff Sessions, an Alabama Republican and Trump supporter, told The Post: "There's nothing wrong with [Trump] trying to energize the discussion on it and work out something that would be healthy and that we can all agree on."

No, you’re running around trying to demoralize people about Trump. Go back your Muslim kissing master.

I'm of the firm belief that every responsible gun owner should have enough weapons to arm every individual in their home, with sufficient variety so that each can hit any kind of target, and with enough ammunition to survive a zombie apocalypse.

60,000 rounds...sounds about right.

When did he "call for action"????

He commented he would be open to discussing it and said he would talk it over with the NRA.

Since he may have reacted like so many of us originally did and wonder how the FBI could have let the perp go free to buy guns and kill folks, I opted to send him a few messages about the no-fly-zone bit being a false meme and that in order to stay a 100% 2nd Amendment supporter, he needs to realize just one thing - the Constitution has no "Noble Cause" clause....

"Well well. This should be an interesting thread."

Actually this is a hopeful development. Congress can act as a foil when Trump embraces "centrist" policies. Trump is already making big inroads with the LGBT community after Orlando, much to the consternation of Dems.

The important thing is to get Trump elected in a landslide - that should also retain control of the House and Senate for Republicans. THEN we can really get going on the "Make America Great Again" agenda!

The really YUUUUGE payoff is eight years of conservative Supreme Court nominees... :-)

TRUMP 2016!!!

Well, sorry to see you go, but you let your emotions rule you rather than argue with logic and reason.

Leftist, moron, idiot. None of those words have a place in the conversation.

And if Trump can get a real due process on appeals to the no-fly or watch list or whatever they’re calling it, that would be great win for liberty after 15 years of big government tyranny and stupidity.

Anyway, I guess you just had to get all the anger and rage off your chest. Too bad it also got you banned!

There’s a lesson for others here.

Yes, no principles, he goes with the polls, he will sell your rights for his success without any recourse.

He makes this list the gun ban list, you will all find your names on it soon enough.

It will be interesting to see how that shakes out. Either Trump supporters...or you...will look foolish.

Anger and rage appear to be the domain of some Trump supporters, I have no issue with rational supporters of Trump, but those who verbally attack, insult, threaten and slander anyone who even remotely questions the one they worship, those I have issue with. As you may notice by my response I have not been banned, sorry if that bums you out. Note also that I have not called you names. It is highly amusing that if a liberal calls for anything that remotely infringes on our Second Amendment rights they are crucified here, while when Trump states that limiting some peoples rights it is the people here that disagree with him that are crucified, makes a person wonder.

Have you bothered to notice how many people have dropped out of FR? Do you really think they are all trolls, DUmmies, angry Cruzers or plants? I would say they are tired of all the personal attacks and the way the site is becoming a think like me or shut up and hit the road, there is a word for a world like that and it really isn't compatible with free. I have great respect for JR and what he has built here, but it seems to morphing into something different this election.

A leader remains calm and discusses the situation without a kneejerk reaction. That is what Trump did by discussing it with the NRA.

At this time last year I was not yet a Trump supporter. That would not happen until ~mid-July. However, I posted a smattering of mildly positive comments re Trump prior to becoming an actual supporter.

Let me tell you, I was savagely attacked. It had to be seen to be believed. Cruz’ supporters said, “This is war,”—and they meant it.

That was nothing, however, to what happened after I actually started backing Trump. The things that were said about me—and about Trump—went so far beyond disgusting, it’s indescribable.

This went on and on and on and on and on. Month after month of blistering, withering, vicious attacks and smears. The pure, raw, naked hatred of Trump and his supporters by Cruz’ supporters truly reached pathological proportions.

Somehow, despite the brutal and never-ending vitriol hurled against him, Trump clinched the nomination. Looking back, it seems like a miracle. I’ve never witnessed such unhinged aggression; it’s amazing anyone could even survive it, much less prevail.

At that time we were asked to stop insulting and attempting to undermine the nominee, and to coalesce behind him in an effort to stop Hillary. It seemed a reasonable request under the circumstances.

However, Cruz has been in full pout/tantrum mode ever since he lost. He refuses to join the effort to defeat Hillary. His supporters—at least some of them—have followed suit. They continue to smear and frag the nominee.

Now does this make sense? Does any sane person believe Trump would be akin to Hillary? He’s published his list of SC picks, for one thing. They’re one-eighty degrees different from the radical leftist moonbats Hillary would pick.

We really do need to unite to keep Mrs. Clinton out of the WH. The survival of the country depends on it. Trump is facing overwhelming opposition; he doesn’t need it on this site too.

You’ve been here less than three years. I’ve been here just about from the beginning. I say this not to brag, but to note that I’ve seen all kinds come and go. I was here when we had the March for Justice against Clinton. When Lucianne, a good FReepr in standing, shit all over the place so she could pull all the members to her site. When “OneWhoKnows” knew. When Ash would post and generate the Ash Alert. When “ClassyGreenEyedBlonde” saw the hosts in the sky, and turned out to be a dude. When “DeepintheHurtgenForest” wasn’t ever. When JimRob didn’t want Dubya to be the candidate because Dubya was rumored to be a coke abuser. When the Great Rudy bans took place.

I’ve seen it ALL, FRiend. Free Republic isn’t going downhill, or losing members—or it ALWAYS has, because the disgruntled have always made that claim, year after year.

You don’t know this because you simply haven’t been here long enough. OR have you?

Have you ever been banned before?

Do you know what a retread is?

Are you one?

That’s only partially accurate. Trump’s belief that government lists can take away your 2nd amendment right is not new.

“If somebody is on a watch list and an enemy of state and we know it’s an enemy of state, I would keep them away, absolutely.”

http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/22/politics/donald-trump-ben-carson-guns-terror-watch-list/

He’s held this position for months or longer.

First, I voted for Cruz. Second, Trump is a smart man. He went to the NRA to get facts as to why they oppose prohibiting people on the terrorist watch list being prohibited from purchasing guns instead of going to some anti-gun group and getting propaganda.

I didn’t recognize the name either. I’ve read about people advertising on Craigslist for old FR names, though. I read that trolls who want authenticity will pay $ for an old sign-up. Probably not the case with Monitor, but an interesting sideline.
