Governor John Kasich -- Hero or Goat?
(Vanity) | 17 June 2016 | areukiddingme1

The countdown begins, we are now down to the last 30 days before the 2016 Republican National Convention and front and center is Governor Kasich -- The Governor of Ohio. The Governor of the state where the 2016 Republican National Convention will be held July 18–21, 2016 at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.

Thousands of people that Governor Kasich wanted to vote for him will be in attendance -- The number one question is: "how will he allow them to be treated as guests of his state."

How will the Governor work with the Secret Service and Homeland Security to ensure the safety and security of the guests of his city and state? How?

Is it going to resemble the pathetic excuse for "protection" that occurred in San Jose?

Or, something more closely resembling that of a mature, confident, competent, seasoned executive?

How will he allow the convention goers to be treated? The same people that he was seeking their vote for President of the United States of America, how will he allow these people to be treated in one of the cities of his great state -- This is going to reveal more about the Governors character as to how he would have lead as a President than any campaign rhetoric that he delivered -- This will be Exhibit A of Governor John Kasich's legacy and love for the very people who could have been attending the convention for him.

Governor John Kasich will go down in history as either a "Hero or Goat" depending on how much violence is perpetrated against the 2016 Republican National Convention goers.

How do you think he will do?

Will he allow any harm to come to the 2016 Republican National Convention goers or will he literally do everything within his power to stop it? Is this going to be an "all hands on deck" or just enough...

Only time will tell.

Governor Kasich's legacy as an Executive is riding on his performance -- The safety and security of his guests are riding on how well he performs as Governor.

Does anyone here remember who the governor of Illinois was in 1968? Me either. Kasich is not in charge of the Cleveland Police Department or security at the RNC this year.

“Kasich is not in charge of the Cleveland Police Department or security at the RNC this year.”

No he is not, he is however in charge of the Ohio National Guard, and in light of the fact that “violence” is likely doesn’t he have an obligation to exercise “sound judgment” and bring them in for crowd control. There is precedent that violence against the convention goers is likely (i.e. San Jose).

When this whole thing goes sideways, do you really think the mayor of Cleveland will be held accountable? No way! They will go up to the first Republican they can blame.

Does anyone here remember who the governor of Illinois was in 1968?

Samuel Shapiro. He was a stand-in for Kerner, who became a judge.

I think the difference here is that in 1968 the real power in IL was Mayor Daley, while in 2016 the Cleveland mayor, Frank Jackson, even though he has been in office for 10 years, is not a major power broker in OH politics, certainly not the way Kasich has been. Jackson would never buck Kasich, just as in '68 Shapiro would never have bucked Daley.
