Lindsey Graham: "I Want To Applaud Mr. Trump" (video at source)

Sen. Lindsey Graham said Thursday that presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, who says he’s meeting with the National Rifle Association to talk about banning people on the government’s no-fly list from buying guns, is on the "right road" on the issue.

“I want to applaud Mr. Trump. I think he’s [going] to the middle on something that’s very important," Mr. Graham said on 'Fox and Friends' Thursday morning.

"If you're on a no-fly list, if the government has determined that you are too dangerous to get on an airplane, I believe you shouldn’t be able to buy a gun. But [there must be] a process to challenge that determination in court."

"So that’s where Mr. Trump is going," he said. "Mr. Trump is on the right road to trying to find the middle ground.

Exactly what is the established proceedure to get your name off of the “no fly” list? How does one find out how their name was put it? Is your name on it? Who is this list created by and what is tbe criteria for being put on the list? Is there a court order in place that can be challenged?

if the government has determined that you are too dangerous to get on an airplane, I believe you shouldn’t be able to buy a gun.

Let's see how that works in other contexts:

If the government has determined that you are too dangerous to get on an airplane, I believe you shouldn't have the right to free speech.

If the government has determined that you are too dangerous to get on an airplane, I believe you shouldn't have the right to get Welfare benefits.

If the government has determined that you are too dangerous to get on an airplane, I believe you shouldn't have the right to a trial by jury.

If the government has determined that you are too dangerous to get on an airplane, I believe you shouldn't have the right to be free of racial discrimination.

If the government has determined that you are too dangerous to get on an airplane, I believe you shouldn't have the right to vote.

The Trump fragging GOPe are using gun control as a wedge issue. They are trying to peel away low info conservative support for Trump and throw the election to the Hildabeast.

This.

Some of the "conservative punditry" phrasing in the last 24 hours has been cringeworthy.

I think what Trump is doing is both bad and good. Good because he is showing moderates and others that he cares and wants to get a better understanding of the issue before he says there is no compromising the second amendment.

The bad is that Hillary will take the same position now and take it off the table. This will shut down the wall, terrorists, etc.

It’s a trap.

Traveler A goes to gate agent with complaint about the airline and raises voice. Gate agent gets mad pulls up traveler A on computer and checks box. Traveler A goes on no-fly list, shortly loses job due to inability to fly and goes to gun shop to buy gun to shoot up office and is denied a gun. Lose, lose, and lose.

Or maybe Traveler A would have skipped the office shooting part and simply has life ruined.

I never applied for the express lane, so was dumbfounded as to why I was on the "nice" list, but walked through and enjoyed it.

You got "TSA Precheck" for that... service.

Two ways to get it - one, apply, pay money, lots of it (? $500 ballpark?) get investigated and fingerprinted.

The other way, it is random, available to all pax.

Either way, it is on your boarding pass when you have it - a paid-for persistent "privilege" or just a one-time random thing.

If you are erroneously on a ‘no fly’ list .. do whatever it takes to get it corrected and your name removed.

Unless you are well connected you can't. There is no defined process on how to do it. And certainly your legal costs to correct any errors will be on you and not reimburseable.

As an example the NICS background check system for firearms has a process to appeal a denial of a firearms pruchase. It is a very bad and poorly defined process if one needs to correct an error causing the denial.

Few people know how or can afford to have NICS error corrected. There are no specific timetables or penalties for the DOJ to respond and it will take months just to get the process started.

I know of only a few cases where correcting an error was successful. In one case it took over a year and a half and $2000 in legal fees to have the error corrected.

The no fly list is much, much worse than the NICS. Is that what you want?

IMO it’s equivocal at this point. (saying the same as you) He’s just “talking” about gun control. As if this simplistic issue has not been talked about enough.

There are express lane services, provided through the individual carriers that can get you to the front of the regular line, you usually pay an additional fee, then there is TSA precheck, where you pay $85 to get a KTN, a Known Traveller Number, which requires you submit a form, they do a background check, and a short interview.

They may seem similar, but there is a difference.

I doubt that Trump will end up backing such a plan.

To help ensure he continues on the right track, I have sent him a message asking him to do what he said he would do and stay 100% behind the 2nd Amendment and not fall for the false meme that the no-fly list is a valid avenue.

I also mentioned that the Constitution has no "Noble Cause" clause.

I stayed polite and would ask that others do the same - send him message reminding him that there is no "Noble Cause" clause in the Constitution of the United States of America - I believe he will listen, especially if he gets a spate of such notes....

If the same ‘smart’ persons who run the Veterans Administration are those who determine who is on the No Fly list, then Houston, we’ve got a problem. It should be apparent that any changes to guidelines, rules, regulations would only be as firm as any ‘leader’ wished them to be. Just as with our Constitution, any point with which any government body did not agree...that point would be dulled indefinitely. Nothing is forever even when written in stone. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.

And likely according to you, it’s Ok to invade your privacy if you have nothing to hide.

Slowly, the Bill of Rights becomes a dead set of unreasonable notions, to be mangled with at the whim of those seeking to rip it up because it stands in the way.

No secret lists until they wise the hell up about a hundred other things that would keep us safer than secret lists. Let them prove for a couple of years that they actually care about keeping citizens safe before giving the benefit of the doubt about lists.

What does a terrorist do when he tries to buy a gun and is told ‘no’ because he is on a list? Seems like a terrorist would never risk alerting the authorities anyhow. If he thinks he might be on a list, he gets someone to make a purchase for him.
