Michelle Obama sat down Tuesday with the first lady of talk: Oprah Winfrey.
They talked about shopping: Winfrey invited her to hit the stores with her, and Obama said she's looking forward to going to Target and CVS after leaving the White House.
They talked about Obama's high points as first lady, from hearing Prince and Stevie Wonder perform at the White House to seeing her mother and daughters meet the pope to dining with the queen of England.
They talked about men, and when Winfrey asked Obama if her husband always walked with a swagger, she said yes, calling him "swagalicious."
This was no tete-a-tete. The two friends spoke before a largely female crowd of 5,200 at the first White House United State of Women summit, which was live-streamed.
Obama refused to confirm the widely reported story that, after her husband's term is up, the family will rent a home in Washington's Kalorama neighborhood.
She did say, though, that she was looking forward to sitting in a yard that wasn't a national park and to breathing fresh air when indoors — Obama said her daughter Sasha once opened a window in the White House, and orders were quickly issued to close it.(snip)
She said being first lady "is just a portion of a bigger journey." It's been an interesting and impactful phase, she said, "but there's more to come."
Billed as an "armchair conversation," the talk between Winfrey and the first lady capped a day in which White House advisers Valerie Jarrett and Tina Tchen, both Chicagoans, played leading roles. They lead the White House Council on Women and Girls.
Earlier in the day, President Barack Obama addressed the summit and declared himself a "feminist."
"Of course, in my household there's no choice," he added.
