TWA 800: Breaking -- Air Traffic Controller Tells All
American Thinker ^ | 6-13-16 | Jack Cashill

Posted on 06/13/2016 8:53:08 AM PDT by Lockbox

As I hoped would happen, American Thinker’s series on TWA Flight 800 has prompted individuals with first hand knowledge to come forward. “Mark Johnson” is one. An air traffic controller (ATC), he worked the night of July 17, 1996 -- the night TWA Flight 800 was destroyed -- at the New York Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) located in Westbury, New York.

Johnson has provided me with his real name, and I have confirmed that he was in a position to know what he says he knows. He requested that I use an alias because he has children who depend on him. The federal government, he believes, “will seek revenge, retribution and/or any other remedy they feel like. I would be fearful my pension would be at risk.” I have heard this sentiment voiced by many people involved in this incident.

Although Johnson was not responsible for tracking TWA Flight 800, he spoke directly with the ATC who did. In fact, he asked him “plenty of questions to prepare myself for the ‘suits’ who were beginning to arrive.” Along with several other ATCs, he viewed the radar tape of the incident. According to Johnson, “A primary radar return (ASR-9) indicated vertical movement intersecting TWA 800.”

An advanced radar system, the Northrop Grumman ASR-9 is able to detect a “target” in severe clutter even when the target has no transponder. The absence of a transponder is what distinguishes a “primary radar return” from a “secondary” one. In others words, the radar picked up a small, unidentified, ascending object intersecting TWA 800 in the second before the 747 “disappeared from radar.”

No. Many Americans admire the corrupt ones for their ability to cover up. They equat it with our ability to defend ourselves They are moral relativists with excuses for lives. They cannot discern that corrupt people are bad. Tgat they will turn against America. Already have

The New York Times could show a photo of Hillary on a fishing boat manning a weapon shooting down...

Well, you know the drill

it has been my position that the aircraft, was clearly identified, as TWA-800, by the communications hand off to Boston (I think it was Boston)from NY....seconds after the hand off the explosion destroyed the A/C....not a casual connection, but a deliberate plan to destroy 800....

If a navy ship fired a missile at that aircraft the entire crew of the ship would surely know, and I find it impossible to believe that not one member of that ships crew would say anything.

Not only is it possible, it has happened. I have a second-hand account of a similar incident by someone who a) was absolutely in a position to know, and b) I have utmost respect for and confidence in. See post #34.

Maybe the conspiracy theories about Flight 800 are "hogwash," but my radar went up in a big way (pun intended) once it was announced that the CIA was involved in the investigation.

The CIA does not investigate airline crashes, and everyone I know who has an ounce of flying experience has described the animated video of the incident produced by the FBI/NTSB/CIA as a comical joke that defies basic laws of physics.

I am not qualified to explain it. I watched a documentary on amazon video from 2013. TWA: Flight 800. The participants, including investigators with a long history of being involved with investigating crashes, went over the radar findings.

I would recommend watching it.

Explain how radar can discriminate the energy of an explosion please

The radar track shows the dispersion of fragments, from which the energy of the explosion can be inferred.

A recording of the radar track was posted on YouTube for a short time. It very clearly showed a high-speed object colliding with TWA-800. It very clearly showed the breakup of the aircraft.

The video was soon taken down. The posters were arrested and threatened with Federal prosecution. They went silent after that.

Recovered wreckage shows burns and residue in the first-class cabin which are only consistent with rocket engine blast.

Reconstruction of the wreckage (yes they pieced almost all of it back together) shows a distinctive puncture on the right bottom of the fuselage, just at the mid-point between wing and cabin.

The damage is consistent with a radar-guided missile impact with failure of the warhead to detonate, or a late detonation, after the missile passed through the fuselage.

So - where are they? Every single one grabbed by the Feds?

Pre-digital world, pre-Facebook and pre-smart phone, Yes. The Feds showed up and asked people for the photos for the investigation. people turned over the cameras and fledgling digital Kodak chips because they wanted to help. But the photos disappeared, even the NY Post removed the cover of that particular issue from their website. I actually do like some aspects of the internet because now, it is much harder to delete all of the evidence.

I remember seeing a thread on FR many years ago where somebody posted evidence that supported the possibility that TWA 800 could have been shot down by a land based AA missile (not shoulder fired but vehicle portable) - and that it was a terrorist attack, not a naval misfire.

If I get a chance I will do a keyword search on TWA800. No time this week though.

This is why I still wonder did the terrorists get their hands on the Russian 9K33 Osa (NATO code name SA-8 Gecko) SAM system and jury-rigged a SAM launcher (complete with radar) that could fit into a larger pleasure boat?

I seem to recall reports of equipment found on the nearby shore that appeared to be a (perhaps improvised) missile launching system. I'd have to go back and look to see if my memory was correct.

Seems like I remember from the initial discussions here that there was a military training exercise going on in the New England area and could it be related.

We are supposed to believe our government. They would never lead us astray.

How much for the bridge?

There are two big pieces of evidence against that scenario:

1. Flight 800 was flying lower than usual through the area that night. It had been ordered to reduce its altitude to make way for a northbound flight into Providence, Rhode Island that was running behind schedule. A terrorist would not possibly have known this advance, when selecting a location to shoot it down.

2. The U.S. government, after months (if not years) of stalling and prevaricating about it, finally admitted that there were naval assets deployed in the area south of Long Island that night to conduct military exercises. The lack of any obvious reaction from these ships (I believe there is documented evidence that they all vacated the area that very night) would run counter to any reasonable reaction to a nearby terrorist attack using a surface-to-air missile -- in other words, the proverbial "dog that didn't bark" scenario.

If was launched from a naval vessel, the ship’s crew would all have knowledge of the event. I’m sure they could have all been sworn to secrecy. Over time you would think something would leak.

I remember a FBI briefing on live TV and they showed the graphic as to the FBIs version of what happened. Reporters were throwing questions at him left and right. The FBI fellow bristled and said: "hey wait a minute, we are the good guys here!"

About a month after the TWA 800 disaster, retired United Airline pilot and accident investigator Dick Russell received a phone call from Holtsclaw. Russell wrote down what Holtsclaw had to tell him verbatim, the gist of which was that
“TWA Flight 800 was shot down by a U.S. Navy guided missile ship which was in area W-105. It has been a cover-up from the word go.”
Here, Occam's Razor gives US a smooth, close shave.

There was a very interesting scenario posted here on FreeRepublic some years ago involving two objects in the air ... a drone used for training exercises and a new type of surface-to-air missile that tracked an aircraft's radar signature (not its heat source) before exploding and shredding the aircraft's skin with small tungsten-carbide cubes.

Whoever posted this scenario speculated that the drone simply got too close to Flight 800 (which was flying lower than normal, as I described in a previous post above).

Or how an ASR-9 can determine a vertical velocity without a height finding component? A primary target won’t show an altitude.

While the FBI would not talk to witnesses, I met a crewman off a scallop dragger in a bar. The FBI chartered his boat to drag the bay and confiscate all of the items found. Was that normal procedure for a search for crash debris.

My thought was that would have been required to ensure no missile debris ended up outside of government hands.

I also remember when the news broke that night, and Wolf Blitzer announced that president Clinton was expected to address the nation shortly. That immediately struck me as bizarre. The president doesn't address the nation after every airline crash.

Clinton never made any appearance that night, and I can only speculate that they were working feverishly to come up with a better explanation than the truth about what happened.
