GOP senators say party could still deny Trump the nomination
Washington Examiner ^ | June 7, 2016 | Joel Gehrke

"He's not our nominee yet," Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., said pointedly when asked about Trump and the current Supreme Court vacancy.

Trump has won a majority of GOP delegates and remains the only Republican candidate in the presidential field. But he repeatedly accused Gonzalo Curiel, a federal judge overseeing a fraud lawsuit against Trump University, of being biased because "he's a Mexican."

That has outraged and alarmed GOP lawmakers on a day when the primaries are winding down — a point in the race in which a party would typically be unifying against the Democratic nominee. House Speaker Paul Ryan described Trump's charge against the judge as the "textbook definition of a racist comment."

Sen. Flake is an excellent example why the ill-conceived 17th Amendment should never have been ratified imo.

I didn’t know Ryan could read.

Very good description. The fools who have taken over the mechanism of the party and used it to their own SUBSTANTIAL profit are trying to keep the party membership from taking control back. If you want to contact Jeff Flake and tell him what an idiot he is, see:

Good comment. Agree, they are plotting to derail Trump and disenfranchise us. Its all about them, not us.

Thanks, I just did. This is what I sent him: “Have you lost your mind? To engage in a plot to deny Trump the nomination at this stage and to disenfranchise millions of primary voters will assure the election of Hillary Clinton. The GOP will become a rump token opposition after the slaughter in November. If that is what you want, just declare yourself a member of the Washington uniparty and maybe the Democrats will say nice things about you.”

What’s RACIST is LaRaza.

I am rather disappointed that Trump is not making a louder case from this.

I hate to say this but Trump brings this on himself with his loose and inexact pronouncements. As an example the other day he used the name “Pocahontas” when referring to Liz Warren. What he meant to say was “Fauxcahontas” thus inferring she used a fake ethnicity to gain status. By using the name Pocahontas as a pejorative he raises the specter of racism - besides everyone likes Pocahontas, what they don’t like is the fake ethnicity part and he missed the target badly.

The latest dust-up regarding the La Raza judge is a similar case where he tries to get to the point of impartiality by saying the judge is Mexican.

I think Trump is very good at encapsulating ideas in a few soundbites, but it does not always work and he needs to know when to back off or use a more scripted approach on complex subjects.

Short of shooting the man on Fifth Avenue scenario that Trump mentioned some time ago, I do not see anything that Trump could do that would justify the GOP denying him the nomination and which would not completely fracture the party and hand Clinton a landslide victory.

‘But he repeatedly accused Gonzalo Curiel, a federal judge overseeing a fraud lawsuit against Trump University, of being biased because “he’s a Mexican.”’

That’s only partly true. The full truth is that Trump is accusing Curiel of being biased against him because

1 - He’s Mexican AND

2 - He has allowed his ethnicity to cause him to take a narrow minded antagonism towards Trump. AND

3 - He has allowed his political antagonism to Trump to effect his ability to judge fairly on Trump’s case.

The fact that he’s Mexican by itself has never been the issue. Without points 2 and 3, nobody would have a problem with point #1, but if you tell a lie long enough, people may begin to believe it.

Over this latest manufactured controversy?

Trump signed the damned pledge that was drafted specifically for him; fought off Uniparty, their MSM and and all their Orcs in both parties; he’s well past the 1,237 delegates they said he would never get; and he remains the only Republican candidate standing ... but this cuckservative says they may still be able deny the American voters their choice.
Incredible. Absolutely incredible.
However this ends, the GOP is dead.

Jeff Flake of AZ. is another RINO like McCain, neither represent the old GOP....rather they represent the new GOPe. In lieu of supporting Donald Trump, Flake would rather see Hillary Clinton win. This GOPe is eating their own party's choice...they have a habit of doing that if the GOPe can't have its way.

Arizona is the nation's gateway for illicit drugs...cartel members & families live in lovely neighborhoods 60 + miles north of the border...this is the new norm...McCain has been in the AZ senator for nearly 30 years...he only became 'vocal' about the border when Trump began exposing the enormous problems happening on our border. Jeff Flake is just as ineffective as the drug traffic/human traffic grows. Law enforcement is truly in harms way....Rules of Engagement are 'fire only if fired upon' IF they can carry live ammunition.

The Mormons must just love this asshole. Of course, 10% of what the brotherhood of corruption steals for the church means more than being a decent American.

Do a long study of what the Mormon members of congress do. They will vote for virtually anything that benefits the church monetarily

“That [Trump’s comments] has outraged and alarmed GOP lawmakers on a day when the primaries are winding down”

WRONG. The traitorous RINO’s see this as the opportunity they’ve been looking for to take down Trump. Outrage has nothing to do with it. Deliberately misrepresenting Trump’s actual sentiments is the name of the game.

I get what you’re saying but it sounds like you’re expecting him to be a slick politician, which of course he is not and that is a big part of his appeal. Yes, he’ll make some mistakes and the liberal media will dutifully provide saturation coverage of every little error he makes. But in this election cycle people are looking for outsiders, renegades who will challenge the system and break up the PC nonsense and disingenuous political slickness that so disgusts people. That said, I do hope he stays focused on the issues that won his so many primaries: the economy, immigration, jobs and national security.

I have GOP acquaintances going as Cruz or Kasich delegates to convention...promised to support nominee on “3rd vote”...I think something is being planned alright.
