We are here today to honor your achievements.

Except that we will not honor your achievements.

Looked it up - appears to be a long wide ribbon (yellow) that drapes over the shoulders

Yep. I had one. FWIW, I worked my butt off for it, but that was a long time ago. Was proud to wear it to graduation.

Nowadays, when everyone gets a prize for showing up, I doubt that I'd be so excited.

receive a Certificate Of Attendance

Phew, that and a buck will buy you a cup of coffee. Glad I'm not swimming in that hiring pool.

When I was in school, you could take the "A" (College), "B" (usually Trades, Military or Pre-College), or "C" (Burnout) tracks. If you were on the "C" track, you showed up at least occasionally, and could fog a mirror, you could get a diploma.

I can't imagine that the standards have gone up, and these guys couldn't even step over that low bar.

Past time for a new school board, school superintendent, and everyone up and down the line involved in approving this absurd policy decision.

Get to work, Plano-ites.

I suppose the surprise in the story, given the school’s location, is that he isn’t Asian.

Interesting that 2 of the senior high schools in the district allow it and one doesn’t (they don’t mention the 4th school).

Can’t be the school board - East and West don’t have the policy. (The magnet school isn’t mentioned). Must be the principal.

I was on the Dean’s List but got off it when my GPA went over 2.0

LOL! I was on the list too........In fact, the last day I ever skipped school happened to be graduation day.

The failing Black seniors in Mobile County (Alabama) schools were allowed to walk across the stage with qualified graduates and receive a Certificate Of Attendance instead of a diploma at the end of the year graduation ceremonies.

The scholastic equivalent of a "participation trophy."

I asked him what it was all for. His answer? “f*€k if I know.”

Your son said that to you, his parent???

I know. My son and I have that relationship and he wouldn’t say that in front of other people.
