Donald Trump said the Cincinnati Zoo didn’t “have a choice” when it killed Harambe, the gorilla that held a young boy who jumped into the exhibit on Saturday.
“I think it’s a very tough call,” Trump said during a press conference. “It was amazing because there were moments with the gorilla, the way he held the child, it was almost like a mother holding a baby. It looked so beautiful and calm.”
Harambe was killed after it dragged the 4-year-old boy who’d crawled through a barrier and fell into the Gorilla World enclosure.
Several news organizations, including CNN, reported the presidential candidate’s comments.
“And there were moments where it looked pretty dangerous,” Trump said. “I don’t think they had a choice.”

All they've talked about in terms of public reaction is the "growing outrage" over the gorilla's death, taking up the cause of the (Democratic) animal rights extremists.
So many people online have expressed other opinions. Yet the media doesn't mention AT ALL that public opinion online is sharply divided, and that many people are outraged by the animal rights extremists valuing the gorilla's life over a human being's.
This is nothing short of squelching public debate by silencing a large segment of the public, one of the main reasons why Trump has so much support.
If they had shot the kid the animal rights folks would be happy. Harambe is OK!

To them, the gorilla has equal value, if not more.
I’ve seen multiple social media posts by animal handlers, including giant ape handlers, pointing out that the shooting was unfortunate but still the right thing to do.
Especially the one by the ape handler that went step by step in pointing out that the silverback was really showing signs of extreme agitation to the shouting of the crowd and defensive hostility towards the child.
What’s the controversy? If the question is the 4 year old boy or the Gorilla that’s not really a question at all. It’s sad that it happened but tough decisions are made every day.This wasn’t really a tough decision when it came down to it. Would anyone rather see a video of a child’s skull getting crushed by a gorilla making the rounds? If there were another way I’m sure they would have done it but such is life.
To me the story is that the Zoo didn't have a more robust barrier so that the kid couldn't blunder in. In Denver the great ape viewing area is behind sealed glass, so that no one, child or adult, can get in.
I saw the video of the gorilla slinging that child through the water like a rag doll, the child is lucky to be alive.

The full unedited video is terrifying, the ape is clearly agitated and drags the kid like a rag doll TWICE. People should ask how a three year old can defeat the security fence which he was able to slip through in a few seconds. The security fence should always be able to stop a wandering child!
Reminds me of the alleged outrage over Cecil the Lion.
The outrage was manufactured and stirred up by the media. The media said there was outrage. Thus they reported the alleged outrage which overtook America and the world over that lion.
Later we learned how false the whole thing was. Allegedly Cecil was a beloved lion, a symbol of Zimbabwe wildlife and all that. Then we learned that people in Zimbabwe had never heard of Cecil, and couldn’t believe westerners were so concerned over that.
Can’t wait for the parents to sue the zoo. That’ll be entertaining.
Agreed, now will the media STOP trying to make this story have legs - it's over.
My main question is why was the 4 year old child allowed to be there in the first place? Parenting of 101 was not in play at the time? You NEVER let a child that young wander off that way....!!!
I don’t know if drugging the ape would have helped, it had to be in a second decision, and I wasn’t there so can’t say what I would do, how many would?
It had to be very difficult for zoo workers to kill Harambe. I feel for the people who had to do it. But I agree. They had no choice. If they had allowed the situation to continue and the child were killed or disfigured, it would have been wrong.
The parents were irresponsible. I don’t care how hard it is to watch a child. No excuse.
The only criticism I would have for zoo is that workers could have been available more quickly to calm the onlookers and clear them from the area to keep the Gorilla as calm as possible and diffuse the situation. Maybe a quicker response could have distracted other gorillas and lured him away from the child. I think the crowd screaming did not help the situation or give them time to react in case the Gorilla became more agitated, even causing unintentional harm.
They had no choice.

These are the same people who think its A OK for Planned Parenthood to murder millions of babies every year
And animals belong in the jungle.
But there's BIG money in breeding these critters. It's really the only reason zoos exist these days.
I'm sure they have plenty of sperm this this big gorilla.
