I wonder if it will matter? In 1979 the country club faction tried to run and independent against Reagan, it did nothing. Reagan was running as a dyed in the wool conservative. When the contrast between the candidates is narrower, for example, as it was when Bush ran against Gore or Bush Sr. against Ross Perot, a Ross Perot or Ralph Nader makes a difference.

But Trump is providing a true contrast (I hope he governs that way if he is elected). I think all that a Kristol type candidate does is reinforce to the GOP voters why they rejected the Graham and Jeb types, overwhelmingly at that. It also allows Trump to point to whoever Kristol puts up and heap any sin the GOP has committed on that candidate. See, the GOP is cleansed, we are a new party, we have kicked out the useless, feckless scum. Not saying that his true, but it certainly provides a great campaign tool.

Is that on a logarithmic level?

Wacko Level - 10 = Kristol, Hillary
9 Beck, Romney, Bernie
8 Cruz (8.5 irregularly), Obama
7 ...

IMHO,it would have to be a milquetoast RINO with no scruples.
There are a few , Jeb, Kasich, Romney, Ryan, etc.
That being said and with the Trumpsters, slighted, and Berniees, also being pi—ed you could see one H of a revolt.
I think more people every day are Feeling the Burn and getting a large case of the Red-ss!
I for one, at my age, say it may take (Political) destruction to start positive construction..

Bill Kristol must be utterly destroyed. 100%. I want him crying into his gruel while he sits at the homeless soup kitchen.

Maybe Silvester P Smythe as his running mate.

I’m thinking Eric Cantor.

He'd get more traction with Eric Clapton

Sir Eric Clapton, CBE, has much more interesting things to do, I'm sure. Besides, Obama and Cruz notwithstanding, as a British Subject Sir Eric is not a Natural Born Citizen.

I'd go with Erik Estrada!

Ha—I think they might as well come completely out of the closet and simply go with Eric Holder.
