Libertarian ‘dream ticket’ in peril as Weld bombs in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. — It was supposed to be a stroke of genius: Gary Johnson, the 2012 Libertarian nominee for president and the party’s leading contender in 2016, announced that William Weld, the two-term former Republican governor of Massachusetts, would serve as his running mate.

The idea was clear and appealing. The pair would comprise a powerful two-governor ticket just as the leading Democratic and Republican contenders, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, rate as historically unpopular. The hope was they could emerge as a true third-party alternative.

But here in the corridors of the Rosen Centre Hotel and Resort at the Libertarian National Convention in Orlando, it could all fall apart as anti-authoritarian Libertarian Party activists, loath to be defined as “Republican-lite,” are increasingly and loudly critical of Weld, who joined their party only weeks ago.

Johnson seems to sense his dream ticket could be in trouble. The former two-term governor of New Mexico was booed at a convention forum on Thursday for calling Weld “the original libertarian.”

Nothing more than voters with the equivalence of yellow and blue stripes in their hair. Oh, and maybe a nose or lip ring.

Two big government, career politicians lie and say they are libertarians.

Johnson and Weld are pathetic liars.

Add Dumber three and four, please. Kristol and Lowry. I’m still amazed at the arrogance of these people. If they ever had real jobs, and not the silver spoons, maybe they would understand.

Even better: Libertarians stay as a party. Conservatives create a Conservative Party.

Then instead of running their own obscure and non-viable candidates they agree to support one of the main party candidates, but only if they meet some minimum requirements regarding support of libertarian and/or conservative issues.

This way libertarians and conservatives won't have to financially support the Uniparty, but they can influence it by giving or denying their support to the better Uniparty candidates.

Slick Willie Weld*, the execrable ex-Guv from Taxachusetts a Libertarian ? That wouldn’t make the Libertarian ticket Republican-lite, it would make it Clintonista Democrat-heavy. This is the ginger buffoon who vowed to drive every Conservative out of the GOP and make it a hardcore Marxist Party.

*Fun fact about Willie Floyd Weld: like Bernie Sanders’ wife, he was put in charge of a college (in Kentucky) after leaving office and he bankrupted it and put it out of business in short order. Lefty loonies like them can’t run jack-squat.

Everyone hates the Hilldog so much that the press has to constantly lump Trump’s popularity in with hers’. That’s their Hillary promotion strategy.

Johnson/Weld is one of the stupidest ideas I’ve ever heard of.

Johnson was a good governor of New Mexico, but our total state population is like two burroughs of New York City. Plus he’s a libertarian one-trick-pony with his pot legalization platform.

It was supposed to be a stroke of genius:

According to WHOM? It was a stroke of "WTF" to me. A 70 year old leftist RINO? Weld makes Corker and some other subpar choices that are being suggested for Trump seem like Jesse GD Helms in comparison.

He moved to New York City in some attempt to run for office years ago. I knew it was over before it began when Weld expressed his admiration with the genius of graffiti. (I kid you not.)

Senator Helms was one who warned against Weld years ago; he even blocked him as U.S. ambassador to Mexico c. 1997.

That pretty much describes NY state politics with both a conservative and liberal party which usually but not always has the same candidate as the respective big dogs

I hope the rest of country has such clarity of thought. Two candidates: Trump vs Hillary. One choice in November on Election Day. The ‘Never Trump’ camp’s pipe dream of a mythic white knight candidate swooping in at the last minute at the Republican convention effectively illuminates how out of touch and detached from reality they truly are.

At the older end of the libertarian mob you have the one worlders/uniparty “conservatives”. At the younger end you have pinko progressives.
