Trump decides he won't debate Bernie Sanders
The Hill ^ | May 27, 2016 | Jessie Hellmann

Donald Trump on Friday said it would be “inappropriate” to hold a debate with Bernie Sanders, throwing cold water on an idea that had captivated the political world in recent days.

"As much as I want to debate Bernie Sanders — and it would be an easy payday — I will wait to debate the first place finisher in the Democratic Party, probably Crooked Hillary Clinton, or whoever it may be," Trump said in a statement.

The presumptive GOP presidential nominee added that it "seems inappropriate" to debate the "second place finisher."

Not a brilliant move. Now he looks like a liar to the Bernie bro vote he was trying to court.

I’m disappointed, but this is a good strategy pivot for Trump. He doesn’t want to take out Hillary too soon. Let Hillary get nominated first, then take destroy her.

Very stupid to have backtracked on this.

No it’s not. Why debate the 2nd place finisher?

Bernie Sanders is a political Woody Allen! I would’ve paid money to watch Trump eat him alive.

Bad idea. The debate was a brilliant move by Trump: pump up Sanders (imagine if Hillary actually lost California) and get Sanders supporters—and potential crossover voters—to listen to what he has to say.

Whoever in the campaign suggested that Trump back out of the debate gave him some poor advice.

It makes Trump looks scared, big boner on this one

It certainly invites the charge that he is "scared".

Bernie of course can't resist that narrative in his argument to the super delegates to switch to his side. Bernie is an idiot and weak.

But the narrative is not sustainable. Its shallow and thin, and not really plausible and will not stand from here into November.

Trump has demonstrated he is not afraid of what people think again and again. And people respect that. He is demonstrating he can talk about something and tease it, and not feel obliged to do it. He is negotiating with the public and setting his ground rules. Trump is a brilliant persuader and negotiator, and not afraid to be who he is and to back his own position and interest without apology. My sense and hope is he will do the same for America.

He got it on the front page and the lead story then said “It would be disrespectful to debate the second place finisher. I’ll debate whoever comes in first.” That means Hillary will have to debate him.

It made it look like Hillary look afraid to debate, now it makes it look like Trump is afraid of a 100 year old socialist

Could you restate that in English ?

Obviously. You've said so about five times on this thread already.

Clever....another way to dominate the news cycle for a couple more days.

When Hussein told us *foreign leaders* were *rattled* by the prospect of a Pres.Trump ....I love the way DJT lives rent-free in their brains. Priceless .... Trump is even getting free publicity from the far-east.

He doesn’t just live rent-free in their brains. He’s making them renovate and paint the place crazy colors and then he’s going to change the locks so they can’t get back in their own heads.

Think you’ll find whichever way DT goes on anything will mostly be declared that here for now.
