LANCASTER, California — In the latest twist to this unpredictable 2016 presidential race, presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders independently agreed Wednesday night to debate each other.

On ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Trump was asked if he would consider holding a debate with Sanders. Trump agreed to the idea.

"If he paid a sum toward charity I would love to do that," said the business mogul, noting that a Sanders vs. Trump debate "would have such high ratings."

Sanders quickly responded with a tweet reading, "Game On. I look forward to debating Donald Trump in California before the June 7th primary."

TRUMP should have been more specific about the charity that would receive the $$$$ BERNIE is going to give him to debate. I’d hate to see what BERNIE would suggest.

Hilly sitting home, washing her hair.

Trying to remove Trump's thumb from her eye.

I know Donald is slick but I don’t think he knows the depths of depravity and underhanded side of these commie/socialist ‘ass’pirants. Maybe he does. If the “debate” ever happens. Of course he could draw uncle bernie in and let him reveal the nastiness that lies within.

Bernie never had a real job until he was forty. Honeymoon in Soviet Russia. And now at 76 years old has yet to make it to reality.

Will they have a defibrillator handy for him?!?!

He’s going to get destroyed.

So do you think the Clinton Foundation is out of the question?

This is a “can’t lose” proposition for both candidates.

"He’s going to get destroyed."

Trump will go easy on him as long as he behaves.

Trump has no interest in destroying Bernie.

He wants some of his voters. He also wants Bernie to win the CA primary.

Trump should “sandbag” Bernie and let him appear to hold his own during the debate. This will bolster the claims of Bernie’s supporters that their guy is the best choice to face Trump in the general election, throwing the Democrats into further chaos.

This makes no sense at all. Why should Trump debate Bernie, if he’s not going to go up against him (we assume) in November?

Trump vs. the Commie.

All Trump has to say to win is “Venezuela.”

But the followers of the Commie won’t be phased by anything he says, no matter how badly pounded he is. In fact, they’ll say Trump is just being ‘mean.’

I think he does. Some things just aren't disucssed, if you know what I mean.

Your right. Trump should throw a dig and temper it each time with a compliment relative to his opponent -”crooked Hillary.”

Trump: “At the end of the day Bernie, at least your honest about your record and what you want to do, this I can’t say about your opponent.”

"Why should Trump debate Bernie, if he’s not going to go up against him (we assume) in November?"

To bolster his status and aid him in the CA primary.

Also to diminish Hillary.

I think this is a brilliant move on Trump's part. He's playing for Bernie's voters and making Hillary irrelevant at the same time. She's so stupid. I don't see Trump hammering Bernie but having a civil debate. It sounds incredulous that Bernie voters would gravitate to Trump, but polls have shown this to be true. They are both going to be agreeing on one big issue. The current system is rigged. That's going to be a dog whistle to Bernie supporters ears....

Trump’s move has little enough to do with Bernie. It’s all about destroying Hillary, and what a freakin great move!
