In 1980 his wife said that Ronald Reagan “made voters comfortable with their prejudice.”

How about setting aside rural Anglo-Celtic Americans as a unique existential threat to everyone else in the country and treating them as if everyone else's rights depends on them not having any???
If it weren't for us "rednecks" to keep Blacks, Hispanics, and moslems on the plantation, the Left would have to deal with the fact that all these other groups are just as bigoted to out-groups. Social conservatism is a universal phenomenon (even Communist countries are socially conservative). But the Left pretends that every Black, Hispanic, and moslem in the country is a decadent post-modern intellectual. And I'm afraid that so long as those groups have us to hate and resent, there'll never be any conflict in the heels' dressing room.
