The Nationwide Crime Wave Is Building
As the homicide rate keeps rising in many cities, even some who dismissed the ‘Ferguson effect’ admit the phenomenon is real.

Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey has again drawn the wrath of the White House for calling attention to the rising violence in urban areas. Homicides increased 9% in the largest 63 cities in the first quarter of 2016; nonfatal shootings were up 21%, according to a Major Cities Chiefs Association survey. Those increases come on top of last year’s 17% rise in homicides in the 56 biggest U.S. cities, with 10 heavily black cities showing murder spikes above 60%.
“I was very worried about it last fall,” Mr. Comey told a May 11 news conference. “And I am in many ways more worried” now, he said, because the violent-crime rate is going up even faster this year.
Mr. Comey’s sin, according to the White House, was to posit that this climbing urban violence was the result of a falloff in proactive policing, a hypothesis I first put forward in these pages last year, dubbing it the “Ferguson effect.” The FBI director used the term “viral video effect,” but it is a distinction without a difference. “There’s a perception,” Mr. Comey said during his news conference, “that police are less likely to do the marginal additional policing that suppresses crime—the getting out of your car at 2 in the morning and saying to a group of guys, ‘What are you doing here?’ ”
The reaction to Mr. Comey’s heresy was swift. White House spokesman Josh Earnest immediately accused the FBI director of being “irresponsible and ultimately counterproductive” by drawing “conclusions based on anecdotal evidence.”
Mr. Comey’s dressing-down was the second time he has been rebuked..

My question is, “How do you know the crime rate when most crimes aren’t reported?”
Example: We’ve been ‘hit’ several times this year. Each time the damage is around $1000. The officer asks if I really need a report since the amount is typically below insurance deductible. They really don’t do much about property crimes. This is adding up. But Officals don’t want to stir up trouble.
(Even caught someone in the act. Sheriff told me to get the license number and let him go. They’d talk to him later. Never did.)

My question is, “How do you know the crime rate when most crimes aren’t reported?”
Big city Mayors and Police Chiefs have been intentionally not reporting and under-reporting all crime to the Uniform Crime Reports Data System (UCR), in order to make their cities appear safe. But now that lie has been exposed.
The operative word is ‘Killing Crime’

Obama lifts Vietnam arms embargo, still wants gun control in US

President Obama lifted the 41-year-old ban on arms sales to Vietnam this morning. Obama made the announcement at a press conference in Hanoi: (WSJ)
“Some of you may recall at the same time that Sandy Hook happened, a disturbed person in China took a knife and tried to kill, with a knife a bunch of children in China. But most of them survived because he didn’t have access to a powerful weapon,” Obama claimed.”
I hope this settles down soon. Here in MA another cop was killed over the weekend. The perp was just released on $500 bail for beating the hell out of his girlfriend. Before that he attacked another cop. Let go. The guy has 84 incidents on his record. Judges keep letting these animals go.
In the meantime my son wants to become a police officer (currenting getting his bachelors in criminal justice).
Sigh.
In his mind we need a Government like China.
His term can’t end fast enough.
