A Merrill Lynch analyst ate a handful of magic mushrooms in his Manhattan apartment Sunday morning - and then plunged to his death out of his 26th floor window.

Alex Lagowitz, 23, was found dead on a third floor, outdoor patio around 10 a.m. - directly below his bedroom window at Windsor Court on East 31st Street and Lexington Avenue in Murray Hill.

It’s still unclear if he purposely jumped or lost his balance and fell out of the window.

He would have been better off reading a book.

My fear of tall buildings is easily explained; I was in the World Trade Center in 1993 when it was bombed.

Old Man: You worry about yourself. Are you ready for him?
[refers to Calvera]
Old Man: What if he comes now, huh?
Vin: Reminds me of that fellow back home that fell off a ten story building.
Chris: What about him?
Vin: Well, as he was falling people on each floor kept hearing him say, “So far, so good.” Tch... So far, so good!

I guess you could say the guy had a bad trip-and he’s definitely a Darwin nominee...

Only did mushrooms once-at a party at a college friend’s apartment-on the ground floor-and that was enough of a trip for me-several people went out and wandered around in the courtyard-two got into the pool naked and had to be dragged back inside by those few of us still thinking straight-I never did them again...

31st & Lex is right near National Review hq. Perhaps he was really depressed over the magazine’s wretched disintegration.

My son’s assistant lacrosse coach years ago was about 45-50 years old or so. Drove a Masaratti. I asked my son what the coach did for a living. My son said he was a teacher! I laughed and said - “I doubt it!”

Well, turns out he had retired from Microsoft. Graduated from High School and went to Alaska and started a bank at the age of 19. Was recruited by the feds and ran some department for them in his early 20’s. Then went to Microsoft in their financial department for awhile, retired, likes kids so he taught and coached, etc.

He ran for local office here and is real conservative. Which doesn’t work well in the Seattle area.

Sheesh! Glad I am not the unfortunate neighbor who had to find this on the balcony in the morning.

Prayers up for the dead fellow’s family.

I smoked some hashish laced with what I later learned had been laced with some psychedelic drugs, then went to the theater to see “2001: A Space Odyssey” (this was 1970 and I was a High School Senior).

I just about freaked out during the “Star Gate sequence”; I swore I was falling out of my chair (for all I know, I did). Don’t remember much of the movie experience after that. On the way home I remember staring at a dumpster and thought it was two old women arguing.

A few years ago, there were a bunch of international bankers who turned up dead. Several strolled off of rooftops or went sailing out windows; one allegedly shot himself 8 times in the torso and head with a nail gun. I think the count got up in the 70s. Looks like we might have a late addition to the list.

I remember the story of the one banker/investor who decided to play with a train.
