One of our all-time great fact checks was The Fact Checkers March 21, 2008, report on Hillary Clintons false claim that she arrived in Bosnia under sniper fire. The article, written by our former colleague Michael Dobbs, was quickly followed by CBS News, PolitiFact and others and ultimately became a defining moment in the 2008 campaign for the former first lady. The incident even earns a mention in a recent attack ad from the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
Readers constantly ask us about Clintons Bosnia tale, and ask whether we will fact check it. As noted, The Fact Checker did so eight years ago. But the original version now appears on the web in very small type, so here it is again. We have also included new material on what happened next...
There are numerous problems with Clintons version of events.

As a reporter who visited Bosnia soon after the December 1995 Dayton Peace agreement, I can attest that the physical risks were minimal during this period, particularly at a heavily fortified U.S. Air Force base, such as Tuzla. Contrary to the claims of Hillary Clinton and former Army secretary Togo West, Bosnia was not too dangerous a place for President Clinton to visit in early 1996. In fact, the first Clinton to visit the Tuzla Air Force base was not Hillary, but Bill, on Jan. 13, 1996.
Had Hillary Clintons plane come under sniper fire in March 1996, we would certainly have heard about it long before now. Numerous reporters, including The Washington Posts John Pomfret, covered her trip. A review of nearly 100 news accounts of her visit shows that not a single newspaper or television station reported any security threat to the first lady. As a former AP wire service hack, I can safely say that it would have been in my lead had anything like that happened, said Pomfret.
“The Lioness of Tuzla”
from the article:
“There are numerous problems with Clintons version of events.”
Save to cut-and-paste as regards: Benghazi; Whitewater; cattle futures; Monica; etc, etc, etc.
Come on, she said she may have mis-remembered!
I wonder on Jan 20th if she will show up on the dais in DC having mis-remembered she did not win the election?
Bill who? She would like to misremember that one!
I always have to laugh when I hear about the “sniper fire”. My hobby back then was listening to shortwave utility broadcasts. I often listened to AF1 and Executive One Foxtrot ( Hillary’s plane ). You would usually get phone patches to aides aboard the aircraft. I heard the phone patch to her aide that day ( thought I had recorded it, but my cable had a short in it and didn’t record. ARGHHHH !!! ). Anyway, it was a patch from the WH Situation room. They were about a half hour out and Clintons aide was asking about the conditions at the base. They told her aide that the base was safe. The only activity in the area was occasional rifle fire - 10 miles away from the airport.
Some fact checkers have found that I was born on June 29, 1945. There goes my claim of having been co pilot of the Enola Gay.
One minor lie provides cover up for murder. Or is it just a coincidence? In March 1996, Hillary makes this trip to Bosnia and advertises to the world that landing an aircraft in this part of the world is dangerous. Back at home, the Bill Clinton re-election campaign is in trouble because Ron Brown, a chief money raiser for the Clintons, is set to testify soon against the corruption of the Clinton regime -- of which he was a big part. He knew a lot. In April 1996 an Air Force VIP plane goes down as it lands in nearby Croatia. All passengers and crew are killed except one crew woman who mysteriously dies on the ambulance to the hospital. What a lucky state of political affairs for the Clintons. A guy whose testimony could take down the Clinton regime dies in a freak accident in a foreign land on a mission of no particular significance to his job. |
Ron Brown made no comment
She reminds me of that antiwar stripper who was claiming to me that she was a Ranger and the US Army. What is it with liberals hating the military but fantasizing about the gun and uniform? What a bunch of psycholaths
“There goes my claim of having been co pilot of the Enola Gay.”
Nonsense! If you believe you were the co pilot on Enola gay, then who is to say different?
Coming from the Washington Compost, this is to elevate Sanders, not enhance Trump. Of that you can be sure.
MARK
Well, they'll still get them but no one really cares what political losers have to say that's 'insider stuff'. And Donald Trump won't give the Post the time of day... and they know it.
Only 20 reporters assigned to Trump while the Clintons did SHAKEDOWNS around the world? Shakedowns the Post 'missed'... Oh, we're all so impressed out here in flyover...
The Clintons - king and queen of white trash - grifters raking in cash for years FEARED NOTHING from the Washington Post...The 'oh so shallow ones (editors with great tone) ignored democrat graft. These are the same folks who couldn't find Chicago on a map but flooded the zone of Wasilla... We know who they are...we know they hate traditional American and we know who pulls their stings.

The thing is, I was there that day with 2ND Plt, 630th MP company, as part of the anti-sniper QRF. Some of our guys went to meet Hillary and Chelsea and had fotos taken. We were there just as a precaution, same as when the Russians landed. We had heard of no credible threat of any kind previously, and we would have, because we patrolled everyday through Tuzla, Zivinice and over to Lukavac.
As for a truck bomb, as far as I know, they never used anything like that there during the war, so I don’t consider that a credible report at all.
Just like Hillary claims she was named after Sir Edmund Hillary........six years before he climbed Mt. Everest.
Maybe Edmund Hillary was a close family friend of the Rodhams of Illinois or something. Or maybe not.
