Nick Menza, who played on many of Megadeth’s most successful albums, died after he collapsed on stage during a show. He was 51.

Menza was into the third song with his new band Ohm when he collapsed late Saturday night, said Ohm’s manager Steve Bauer. Paramedics couldn’t revive him.

The band was playing at The Baked Potato, in Studio City, California.

“The group’s bassist texted me last night after it happened,” Bauer told CNN. “We are all still in shock.”

Officials haven’t released a cause of death.

Alongside Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax, Megadeth makes up metal’s “Big Four.” And for nine years in the early 1990s, Menza played on the band’s biggest releases: “Rust in Peace,” “Countdown to Extinction,” and “Youthanasia.”

Never heard of him or the group, but I hate to see someone that young go down. RIP.

Rust In Peace is one of the great metal albums. They are a bunch of savages on that thing, I listened to it not too long ago after not hearing it for a few years. Hard to believe it came out 26 years ago.

I figured there had to be some relationship. Don Menza also wrote a lot of Buddy Rich’s hits, including ‘Time Check’.

The contribution to the decline of society and culture made by Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax, Megadeth should never be underestimated.

Ok, now I can place the dad.
I am a Maynard Ferguson fan.
Tried to listen to the YT clip you’d posted, but haven’t had enough coffee yet.

Pop culture was where it all began. But it looked so innocent at the outset.

Amazing drummer. Huge Megadeth (and Metallica) fan. Loved the Bay area thrash scene. He replaced the drummer for Ohm that died of heart attack last year...2 drummers in 2 years...they are going to have a hard time finding the next one.

I didn’t take his comment in a negative way, more like a reference to the movie “Decline of Western Civilization Part 2 - The Metal Years”

when I was 19 or so, Nick handed me his drum sticks at the end of a show (Rust in Peace tour). I had shown great enthusiasm rushing the stage when they went on. Marty Friedman gave me his wrist band as well. All items were stolen by an ex girlfriend. It was probably a fair trade in retrospect.

I guess they should have named the Band Megalife.

51 is way too young to die. RIP.

It sure as heck wasn’t positive.

But hey, I’m guilty of liking deleterious “music” too.

“And for nine years in the early 1990s”

I’m sure that takes you all the way to the “late 1990s.”

There are a lot of things that ‘contribute’ - they said the same thing about poetry in ancient Rome, beer hall songs, education, jazz, blah blah blah. Civ was declining long before Metal. SMH
