For the first time, the inside story of how Michelle Obama changed American nutrition.
...The Obamas had been in the White House for six months, and Michelle had begun to signal that she might use her bully pulpit to encourage healthy eating.
....They wanted a new law to make school lunches healthier; they saw ways to deploy federal stimulus dollars on new cooking equipment in public school cafeterias and to use government financing to get grocery stores into poor communities where fresh food wasnt readily available. They wanted to overhaul the federal nutrition label so it confronted shoppers more directly with calorie counts. Even the more symbolic side of American food policy was coming under the microscope: A reboot of the decades-old food pyramid that told families how to balance a meal.
....Michelle Obamas sophisticated and strategic campaign has transformed the American food landscape in ways considerably deeper than the public appreciates

"To date, its impossible to know how much the effort has helped: Public health is a slow-moving target and frustratingly hard to measure. But theres no question that big changes have been set in motion that will prove difficult to reverse, if theyre reversible at all."
The proof that Michelle Obama’s nutrition standards haven’t helped is found when one looks at her ass.
Has it gotten any smaller since these standards were implemented?
No.
go to twitter.com and enter #thanksMichelleObama and look at some of the crap kids are eating.
and there are new labeling rules—unvoted on by the Congress—that are being shoved down your throats now. Higher prices for food will be the result.
I am so so so so sick of the nanny state.
Should be referred to as FTOTUS - First Tranny of the United States.
Her (his?zir?) kids didn’t have to eat any of this $hit.
It's a good idea. If the manufacturers have to list how much there is, they're more likely to use fully ripened fruits and vegetables which don't need as much added sugar to taste right. Fully ripened foods would also have more nutritional value.
Butt it’s prison food for our kids. Gets them used to what their lives will be like under future liberal fascist regimes.
yeah, I guess you’re right. a diktat from on high is just what we need. who the hell needs a congress anyway? Let’s scrap the entire first Article of the Constitution. :-/

I’d rather we didn’t need a dictate from Congress and we would be more pro-active about what we eat. But if they’re going to do the labels, I’d rather the information not be deceptive.
Often out of sight, but ocassionally in the public eye as this photo shows conclusively, Michele Obama eats like a pig, “a P.I.G. pig” (”Animal House”).
John Belushi’s “ZIT” is sitting to her right (which is the only photo of him sitting on the “right”).
Should I tell you that the reason they taste "right" is because they have turned their starch to sugar?
Six of one, half dozen of the other.
And actually they usually use fruit and vegetables that are as ripe as possible. They have no wish to hold the produce so it processed as fast as possible. It is the "fresh fruit and vegetables" that you buy that are usually picked green.
Just wait till Melania Trump takes over the FLOTUS spot... ketchup will be a vegetable again (which was actually sensible due to its tomato content).
It’s probably high carb low fat diets that have been giving us the most grief. The carbs don’t satisfy because there is so little fat to eke them out. So we gorge. French fries (the fried kind, not the baked) were probably a virtue.
How can anyone with the ass the size of a D9 Caterpillar have any credence about nutrition?
President Barky: The Catcher...
First Lady Michelle: The Batter....
When the Soviet Union collapsed, the writers at Pravda must have fled here in droves.
They left off the most important motivation:
The administration had some friends who were looking to make money on the school lunch deals.
The following is a partial list of foods that are available either with or without added sweeteners....applesauce, pineapple, other canned fruits (harder to find), fruit preserves, salsa, tomato sauce, other canned veggies, peanut butter, soups, sausage, sandwich meats. I ALWAYS choose the ones with no added sweeteners.
