May 20, 2016, 05:11 pm Obama signs measure striking 'oriental' and 'negro' from federal law
By Jordan Fabian
President Obama has signed legislation striking outdated racial terms such as Oriental and Negro from federal laws.
Obama signed the bill without fanfare on Friday along with six other pieces of legislation, the White House said.
The measure sailed through Congress unopposed, a rare example of bipartisan agreement in an election year. It reached the presidents desk after the Senate unanimously approved it on Monday. It passed the House easily in February.
The term Oriental has no place in federal law and at long last this insulting and outdated term will be gone for good, the author of the bill, Rep. Grace Meng (D-N.Y.), said in a statement Friday.
Two sections in the U.S. Code written in the 1970s governing public health and civil rights attempted to define minority groups by using the outdated terms.

I saw what you did there. :)
Warning! Coarse Language
I’m not sure why you bothered to post that. Maybe you should post it at DU.
Oriental comes from Latin oriens, "rising," as in the sunrise. There is a period of archaic Greek art when they were imitating styles from the Ancient Near East--that is called the Orientalizing period. They weren't copying Chinese pots.
WSell done. :)
Book burning one word at a time.
Anything to foment victimhood and division that comes to their minds is what they will go with.
We should use Negro and Oriental whenever we can get away with it. If only to oppose this destruction of our language by these kitsch marxists!
“Personally, I was happy to see Obama nip this in the bud.”
I think it would be easy to find a chink in his armor.
3 races: Negroid, Caucasoid, Mongoloid
“Oriental” is evil because it is based on a “Euro-centric” worldview (they are only “eastern” if you’re looking at it from the west).
Negro is just Spanish for “black”; probably too close to the word “nigger” for some.
Things are Oriental. People are Asian. The PC split happened sometime in the 70s or 80s as I recall. When I was a kid, everything was Oriental.
I know - but I, and others have used the words forever and have never considered them in a negative sense.
Thank you. I will now refer to black folks as Negroid.

Since these terms are removed, it would make sense that we are all equal under the law and that any preference to minority groups for grants or other perks would be null and void. / sarc
