When most people think of battleground America, they think of Florida and Ohio, two of only three states (along with Nevada) that have voted for the winner of every presidential election since 1996. They tend not to think of Pennsylvania as a classic swing state it has voted for the Democrat in every election since 1992, and it didnt even crack the top 10 in 2012 campaign ad spending.
But in 2016, Pennsylvania could be the keystone of the Electoral College and the ultimate arbiter of whether Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Plus Pittsburgh is a gateway city to some of the most beautiful counties and small towns in western PA. Had gone to western PA last summer for a yearly Bible conference I had not been to in years. Takes place at a small Christian college which also carries the name of the town for that college. The folks there are very welcoming.
Here in Westmoreland County, a large number of candidates for state and local office mention that they are members of the NRA and pro-life in their campaign literature. This even includes a fair number of Democrats, believe it or not.
Being a ‘Burgher I can tell you Trump is very popular with the Reagan Democrat type voters, blue collar guys(Steamfitters, PennDOT, Gas and Oil). But we have to worry about the morons back east near Philly. They are as brain-dead as Suburban Boston, NY or New Jersey voters. You have lots of white collar families who grew up on Democrat politics, taking their kids to soccer to collect plastic trophies for participation. You know your basic emasculated, softhead culture.
Trump will win PA. The surprise is that he’ll win CT.
It would complicate campaigns as it would now make the race to the White House 485 separate elections. However, it will make some currently-ignored areas part of the campaign stops again. The congressional districts in Eastern Washington would become relevant again in presidential campaigns because their right-leaning constituents will not have their votes overridden by the votes of the liberals west of the Cascades. The method is even-handed as shown in Nebraska as the liberal congressional district in Omaha gave Obama an electoral vote when the rest of the state went for his opponent. I didn't like that particular outcome but I liked the fairness of the process. While such a change might favor conservatives at this point in time, shifting demographics could tip that in the future. In my mind, it is not a partisan issue but an issue of fairness.
I don't like the winner-take-all allocation adopted by the other 48 states. I like the popular-vote option even less as it makes the presidential election one winner-take-all campaign. The Electoral College should be kept. The Founding Fathers knew what they were doing in this regard to protect the small states.
I agree if Penn is in play, Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin are also in play.
Ahhhh...
Not so fast.
A lot of the western democratic voters strike up easterners as hanging on to old style democratic politics, not seeing the dems do not give a rats ass about the blue color or middle class worker for same time now.
Not that there are not a lot of morons in Philly or near, but Allegany county contributes its fair share as well.
I’m not surprised.
Education majors have the 2nd lowest SAT scores - right above journalists!
When I was taking my physics competency tests, there were lots of coaches taking the math tests for the 4th or 5th time. LOL, I had passed that one - it’s only at a high school level. SCARY!!
Allegheny County (we prefer the original French spelling here) does indeed have its share of morons.
Including our County Executive, Rich Fitzgerald. One of the biggest Democrat machine/big labor/leftist pieces of (excrement) you’re ever likely to find. And Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto, who seems to think the key to revitalizing the city is to make it more gay-friendly and put everybody on bicycles.
The fact remains, Philly dwarfs us in terms of sheer numbers of idiots.
Agreed Philly is really the downfall of PA, no argument there.
One of the keys to this election will be the turnout of the base. If you are a precinct committeeman or a Trump worker get a copy of the precinct walk list, go door to door, yes, it is harder in cow country, encourage participation, and tie down yard sign locations on main roads, and major intersections. Call the local county Republican Party party and volunteer
You'll have to stay away from interrupting Penn State, Pitt, Stillers, or Ohio State football, but you will probably get a warm welcome because people are so fed up with the anti Christian, anti LIFE, anti gun, anti fracking, pro lgbt, pro Mexican/Muslim importation programs of "progressive" America.
If we turn out more of the base, we don't have such a high hill to climb with the 20% in the middle. And forget about converting the hard corps Dems.
I agree, we need to be making the phone calls to the lists that the republican party has and encouraging people to turn out. I’ll probably be working the phone banks close to the elections. Even though I’m not a big Trump fan, the prospect of Shillery shakes me to the bones.
Semper Fi and as we used to say in the Marine Corps adapt (to having Trump as my candidate) and overcome!
P.S. I wonder if we rated Shillery on the 14 leadership traits how many would she score high on. My guess is few if any. I’m already marking her down as a zero on the Integrity trait....
