Whoa! A Former GOP Competitor Just Endorsed Trump For President!

Former Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore, who also once ran the RNC, was one of the original candidates running against Donald Trump for the Republican presidential nomination.

Now, Gilmore has a major announcement to make: He is officially endorsing Donald Trump for President!

While Gilmore’s campaign never gained traction, he is popular in the key state of Virginia and could be helpful with working with the Republican establishment to help bring them on board during these critical weeks before the RNC convention in Cleveland, Ohio.

Appearing on “CNN Newsroom” With Brooke Baldwin, Gilmore said that part of Trump’s appeal has been “a feeling of strength, a feeling of decisiveness, [and] a commitment to change which the American people absolutely people want.”

Trump is “very different from Hillary Clinton and that’s the Republican advantage in the race so I think right now what we need to do is focus on unifying the Republican Party and not try to overthink all this too much as we go forward,” Gilmore said.

The former governor of Virginia said, “I think that the American people are beginning to rally behind the guy they voted for in the primaries.” Via The Daily Caller

After his CNN interview (below) he Tweeted the following out:

Past RNC leader has a history of running and dropping out. Looks
Like he supported Newt in the past. Considered a conservative

That thought crossed my mind too. Particularly if he and Newt and friends. Told sis last summer when researched showed the friend connections between Newt Trump and Carson that it is Newt who is pulling the strings behind the curtain. His revenge for Romney dirty tricks in Florida and beyond in 2012.

It may partly explain Romney’s insane behavior. He know Newt is beating him. Payback is a Hillary

Good news.

I believe it was the “Constitution Party” had a lot to do with McAuliffe getting elected governor. I hope they don’t pull from the repubs this time and help elect Hillary.

"While Gilmore’s campaign never gained traction, he is popular in the key state of Virginia"

That ignores the fact that Gilmore had one of the greatest epic-level disastrous showings when he ran for Senator, getting only 1/3rd of the vote in a statewide race against Mark Warner in 2006, this as a first tier candidate in an open race.

Excellent!

Now, if only all his other ex-competitors, including Cruz, would do the same...

I think it was the Libertarians who helped the popular VA Demos in both 2013 and 2014.

Both of his supporters will be displeased by this announcement. Everyone else will ask “who is he”?

I wonder if his voter will follow suit.

I wonder if his voter will ever admit being his voter.

Virginia has really difficult petition requirements, among other technicalities.

You are correct. It was the Libertarian Party that paved the way for Hillary’s friend. I am sure Hillary hopes they do the same to put her in office.

Gilmore wants the job of DHS Secretary.

He headed up the Gilmore Commission.

First was the Hart-Rudman Commission followed by the Gilmore Commission.

The premise was that the US was organized around the cold war, but the threat had shifted to Islamic terrorism, so the govt needed to reorganize around that.

Hart-Rudman looked at the issue from the perspective of the federal govt while Gilmore looked at it from the perspective of state and local govt.

When Bush and congress created DHS and re-organized the govt, it was based on the findings and recommendations of Hart-Rudman and Gilmore.
