A recall so serious automaker warns: Stop driving these [Subaru] cars NOW

If you have a newer model Subaru Legacy or Outback, stop right now.

The automaker is recalling more than 48,500 vehicles over a potential steering column defect so serious, they shouldn't even be driven to a mechanic.

...

"The steering column in your vehicle may not have been manufactured to specification," Subaru says in a customer service message online. "If this condition exists, turning the steering wheel may have no effect on the direction of the wheels, increasing the risk of a crash."

I'm on my 3rd Subaru. They've been very good, I've put a lot of miles on them.

I don't doubt you experience though, If I've learned nothing else in the past six decades, it's never buy the first model on anything!

Every woman on campus and all the flower shop owners in town are affected! If this affects Subaru’s sales it will have a horrendous impact on political bumper sticker sales.

Yeah. Shortly after the divorce my ex bought a Forester. My only comment when I saw it while picking up the kids was “I had no idea you were a lesbian!”

I actually saw a rare Cruz 2016 sticker yesterday during traffic. The dude was in front of me. Try placing a Trump sticker and you’re asking for it from the “tolerant ones’...

There are other reasons to buy a Subaru.

For example, we have a Forester, which is a good car, handles great and holds all our camping equipment and our dogs (Akita and boxer/whippet - no golden retrievers allowed here).

One of the main reasons we got it, however, is that Mrs. VanShuyten’s brother works for a supplier to Fuji Heavy Industry, which makes Subaru. Ask any Japanese FReeper about family purchase pressure.

The other reason is that we got a great deal with Obama’s Cash-for-Clunkers program. Thank you US taxpayers!

I agree with you that lesbians, Bernie supporters and assorted libtard weirdos are the ones that drive Subarus.

“...turning the steering wheel may have no effect on the direction of the wheels...”

This sounds similar to voting in 2010 & 2014 to change the direction of the Government...

They only say it will increase the risk of a crash, not that it would cause one. Must not be too bad. /s

I can see where that might be a problem.

one of the first year’s Subaru.

Subaru 360 with suicide doors? Or the Star? It and the Renault Dauphine were legendary pieces of junk imported in the 50s and 60s.

I had no idea Captain Obvious was working for Subaru's PR firm now.

My husband and I have a Subaru, 2006. Love it. Drive through Utah mountains and western Colorado, up from Los Angeles, and we never have spit of trouble in the snow. Hit a deer and lived to tell. I can carry my dog, garden stuff, concert gear like speakers and so forth.
