Mike Lee: Trump 'scares me to death'
The Hill ^ | 5/11/16 | Rebecca Savransky

Posted on 05/12/2016 6:08:44 AM PDT by Sybeck1

Mike Lee(R-Utah) said Wednesday that he is not ready to endorse presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump

"I have not supported Donald Trump up to this point, I have not endorsed him," Lee said, according to The Washington Examiner.

"I have some concerns with him. He scares me to death; so does Hillary Clinton

. There is no easy choice right now." Lee had previously endorsed Ted Cruz

, before the Texas senator ended his presidential bid earlier this month. At the time, he said Cruz had a "proven record of fighting for our conservative values and for the issues that matter most to Americans."

The Utah senator said he plans to continue following the election and will make a choice in the future.

"I'll make the decision as best I can," he said, "but I'm not there yet."

Lee now joins several other Republican leaders, who have said they are not ready to endorse Trump or said that they don't plan to vote for the presumptive nominee in a general election.

Speaker Paul Ryan said last week that he was "just not ready" to endorse the presumptive GOP nominee.

No easy choice? What a loser. What is this cult-like attachment to one’s preferred candidate?

This isn’t about Cruz. It’s simple really. Lee does Romney’s bidding or the Mormon support/money dries up.

“FReerepublic was ecstatic over Ryan’s selection as the VP candidate in 2008-2009. “

But then, like Cruz, we got to know him.

Keep up the good work! The messianic trump cult has elevated this pig-in-a-poke to his lofty position, which is how democracy works. But now, they want to stop those of us who would like to see him forced, against his nature, into acting like the small government constitutional conservative he occasionally claims to be.

And the loser "I'm gonna get you kicked off if you commit heresy against our leader" attitude of some of his more pathetically smitten and intellectually weak apostles is just sad.

Go Trump! Beat Hillary!

Again, your memory fails you. It was Palin then.

Post 204 seems to be Romney-speak out of three or four sides of your mouth. Your overall meaning and why you pinged me is muddy.

LOL! The fact you couldn’t recognize that you were one of the trumpostles I was referring to only confirms my analysis. I suppose this will get me reported!

See my #171, above.

Just who could be more of a “social conservative,” than the man who makes it very clear that he puts his fellow countrymen, their liberty, jobs & other interests, first??

Absolutely!

I have seen posters that say they will not vote for Trump because he is not 100% pro-life.

I am 100% pro-life, yet I fail to see what the Presidents views have to do with the “Law of the Land” - there is nothing any President can do about this issue - and other social issues - unless Congress acts on behalf of the people and the President RESPECTS the choices made by the People.

I believe a President Trump will respect We the People.

I am not proficient in writing down my thoughts. I hope you understood what I mean. :)

Yes, we do give folks the benefit of the doubt until they prove us wrong, that’s when we turn on them.

Obviously I agree. I no longer even say GOP leaders. Matter of fact, I’ve taken to using the term, “Republican wing of the Uni-Party.”

Too often I’ve been corrected by FReepers when I’ve damned the Republican wing of the Uni-Party that it is the leaders, NOT Republicans that are at fault. Well, who put those leaders there but individual Republicans! They elect club leaders who in turn elect county leaders who in turn elect state leaders who then elect the national leaders.
ENOUGH!!
Individual Republicans need to accept the responsiblity that it is because of THEM that this sad, corrupt organisation lives.

The poster is claiming that once Trump gets elected, he’ll finally show his true colors and will fall into equal disrepute with Ryan. Lots of Deep Thinking goes into that conclusion.

For example, we’ll learn that Trump isn’t a real patriot; he’s just been pretending for DECADES to love America.

We’ll learn Trump doesn’t really care about his name/brand, and he’ll merrily trash both by reniging on all the promises he’s made.

I suppose we’ll learn he doesn’t even love or care about his own kids or grandkids. If he did, he’d try to fix the problems just as he said he would. But presumably we’ll learn that this pig in a poke wants his kids and grandkids to inhabit a hellish shadow of the great country America used to be.

So many revelations to come, it would seem. If only we’d been smart enough to select Yet Another Career DC Politician, we’d be ok.

"I have some concerns with him. He scares me to death; so does Hillary Clinton. There is no easy choice right now." That statement is 100% correct, and until the blindly ecstatic Trump supporters start recognizing the many problems associated with the (hopeful) victory in November, the dangers will continue to fester. The ONLY way to get a course-correction out of Trump is for his supporters to nudge him in the right directions. A partial list, in case the Trump-devotees ever decide to wake up: .......................................................... Your arrogant, holier than thou attitude is exactly what is wrong with so many "Teachers." I AM a Trump supporter. You are NOT superior to me, either in analytical thinking powers, or accumulated knowledge through both formal education and over three quarters of a century of real-world experience. Do NOT assume to teach me anything about people. YOU, obviously are, or have been, part and parcel of the Marxist trend in the so-called "education system" which our children have suffered under for far too long. YOU espouse the ruination of the 1st Amendment and obviously adhere to "group think," subject to YOUR approval, of course. WHO are YOU to tell Mr. Trump to stop making declarative judgements about people. FREEDOM of SPEECH is being destroyed by the likes of you. One of the outstanding issues in this country is the runaway "Political Correctness" which destroys all in its path. People USED To BE able to express their likes and dislikes FREELY. Thanks to the WIMPS who are so thin skinned we are losing the ability to speak as well as the liberty to use whichever words we so choose, saying ANYTHING is subject to scrutiny and insane condemnation by the Media and the "politically correct" cry-babies. I WELCOME a candidate who is not afraid to say what he thinks. Millions of us think the same. YOU had better recognize that WE do not care what YOU think! Trump makes the air breathable again. Trump severs the CHAINS OF GROUP-THINK. Trump is bringing AMERICA back from the BRINK OF DISASTER. MARX and ALINSKY are rampant in ALL of our Institutions, especially our education system which Trump is going to put back into the STATES where the Constitution assigned it. Common Core is DEAD when Trump is president. WE, the people, are NOT going to let Marx and Alinsky reign supreme any longer. AMERICA is AWAKENING and WE WILL PREVAIL. I would advise you to take your list and stuff it. I don't intend to spend any more time on you. Samuel Adams said it the best. “If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” ― Samuel Adams

There is no easy choice right now.

Shades of McCain v. Obama and Romney v. Obama. Tough choice for you, Senator Lee? Welcome to the club

This isn't truly about morals. This isn't about "Conservatism", as these so called "Conservatives" were all in for the Obama agenda.

This is about Amnesty. The Republican Party is all in, except when in campaign mode. Trump seems committed to a wall and stopping the open border.

This is not a tough choice at all for me.

The bitterly disappointed Cruzers are emulating their `Mr. Smith Goes To Washington' grandstanding Great Helmsman, I suppose. They can rationalize all they want, and continue with the nasty insults--I suppose they could speculate that they looked into a gypsy's crystal balls and saw that in late 2017 Trump wil decide he's a woman trapped in a man's body. But back in the real world, the realpolitik is that it is now a choice between Trump or Hillary. If these dramatic soliloquies by nevertrumpers are going to segue into interesting Opii, that's one thing, but otherwise they can go chase their tails. mike lee’s problem is he is waiting for the Mormon church to tell him what to do.... I have friend who is a scholar and writes books on the Mormon church and politics. the guy is a liberal ex-Mormon so I have to be carful about how I take his info because it is shaded with his alternate version of reality. but the gist of his info is that the church dictate’s to the politicians and professional commentators there positions if they are members in good standing.

“Is there no Republican left in DC with balls?”

It takes balls to abandon ones conservative principals and
and jump on the fadwagon for a candidate that is northeastern
moderate at best and no clue what he’s going to be one day,
two weeks or a year from now.

I never though I would see the day that standing your ground
on conservative values and principals would be at the least
frowned upon and at worst outright attacked and insulted
right here on Free Republic.

Voicing any concerns about Trump is met with attacks, and insults. The only debate is “your just a sore loser”. That’s
it. No intellectual debate at all.

In some ways FR is starting to look a lot like DU.

That’s an excellent retort to Mike Lee’s ridiculous remark.

I doubt if Mike Lee expressed the same kind of misgivings about Mitt Romney when he became the 2012 presumptive nominee, even though Mitt’s record in office would make any progressive liberal blush with pride.

Did Mike say, “Mitt scares me”, or did he keep his head down and wait until it was politically safe to support him?

That aside, what on earth is the point of making such a tremulous statement, AFTER the door has closed on the possibility of anyone else becoming the nominee? Man up and go to war with the General you’ve got, Mike.
