Trump hints that Fallin and Brewer on VP short list
The Hill ^ | May 11, 2016 | Harper Neidig

Donald Trump said on Wednesday that former Ariz. Gov. Jan Brewer and Okla. Gov. Mary Fallin are both on his shortlist for running mate.

“Well also Jan. Jan Brewer has been fantastic,” he said. “She has been so fantastic. You know I won so big, her territory, we won so big. And she is a fabulous woman. And I agree with you, the governor of Oklahoma -- fabulous person.”

When asked whether Chris Christie is still in the running as a possible vice president pick, Trump declined to give a straight answer, opting to praise the New Jersey governor.

“I don’t want to say 'in there,' but he’s helping me and he was an early endorsement and a very enthusiastic one and he’s a friend of mine and a very good guy and a talented guy and he’s helping us a lot," Trump said.

He said there were between five and seven people under consideration to be his VP and that he will make the announcement at the convention this summer.

Give me the name of the woman that has consistently advocated for Trump's positions, and that's who I think will be his VP pick.

AFAIK, only Sarah Palin is in that select group. She's been out of office 8 years, and carries sufficient baggage of her own. Not sure that's what Trump needs.

Don't make RR's mistake when he picked GHWB.

I was at the convention in Detroit when Reagan did that. Everyone was wildly cheering, but I did not join them. I knew right then and there that if Bush succeeded Reagan, he would try to undo any of Reagan's accomplishments..

It was Gingrich yesterday. Whisperers whispered so.

LOL

Donald is going to keep everyone guessing until the Convention.

Doubt it. Your bold part is standard Trump-speak filler when he likes someone. His speech pattern is:
Topic (so-and-so is great evangelicals, women, less educated people) —>
minor segue (We won big there, wonderful place with great steaks etc..) —>
back to topic (So and so did great on this thing) —>
Another minor segue etc...

He won't. He's just complimenting her. The press is doing the job it is most accustomed to, ginning up fantasy.

I still think former White House Chief Of Staff Andy Card would be ideal. But mostly because I like the idea of a "Trump - Card" ticket.

Okay, only because of that. But still...

He is wise to hold off on the VP pick until the convention. He needs the drama of the selection to bring in ratings and viewers. It must be unique and exciting. The goal should be to offer up an exciting convention that will draw in watchers—musical groups, right wing Hollywood people, Party stalwards and such—Bush and Mittens not coming might be a good thing. Who wants to hear them?

I know what you mean, but who was the last vice president to successfully win election?

George H. W. Bush, following the unbelievably popular and effective Ronald Reagan, and Bush lasted one term. Before that? Not counting death, Martin Van Buren, 1836.

In short, a veep has virtually no chance of becoming president.

C’mon people.... do you really think Trump would float potential VP picks to the public??

He's no longer slipping off the plateau and heading for the fjords

He's just being predictably unpredictable.

Mr. Trump: NO, NO, NO to Christie as VP. Make him AG or head of Homeland Security - but keep his anti-gun arse away from the Presidency, PLEASE.

I believe that you need a few things from a Veep candidate:

1) Someone with very similar views to you on immigration, national defense, monetary policy, the Supreme Court and the gun laws. Why? So that no one in the Establishment (of either party) will be the least bit tempted to assassinate you or impeach you.

2) Someone in their late 40s - early 60s. With respect, you will be the oldest President upon assuming office, and while you are in prime health (and may that continue for many, many years), if something happens then this country needs someone to take over who will be able to finish the job that you are starting.

3) A woman or a Hispanic (or Black) would be nice, so as to short-circuit the Dem argument that you (or Republicans in general) are misogynist or prejudiced. HOWEVER, I believe that you should do as you always do and PICK THE BEST PERSON FOR THE JOB.

4) As you have mentioned, you need someone with significant legislative experience to help you get your agenda through Congress.

I personally believe that Newt Gingrich meets all of those qualifications EXCEPT #2 and #3. He is an invaluable resource that cannot be ignored or tossed to the side. But he’s probably not the best Veep candidate. Use him as your Chief of Staff, and have him on the committee making Veep recommendations to you. Oh, and listen to him on the EMP issue - this country is INCREDIBLY vulnerable to such an attack, and it allows nutty leaders like those in Iran and North Korea threaten us.

At first glance Fallin looks like a very good conservative.

Only 2 veeps in history have had to step in as POTUS.

More important to have someone who will draw votes - if they executive experience, all the better.

I had been wishing to see Marsha Blackburn a VP candidate.

Probably won’t since the south is a Trump lock anyway.

Where did you learn your history? In the 20th century alone, teddy R., Coolidge, Truman and LBJ all became president upon death, and each went on to be elected for a term. Ford should count for something, and Nixom as well. People who first served as veep have been president less than half but more than 40 percent of the 20th century.
