Licensed to Carry: Handguns in Texas
NY Times ^ | 05-11-2016 | MANNY FERNANDEZ

Posted on 05/11/2016 11:20:57 AM PDT by NRx

Texas has quietly reached a milestone: More than a million residents now have handgun licenses, one of the biggest citizenries in the country authorized to carry concealed and unconcealed firearms. Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, is one of them, as is the state’s only living former Democratic governor, Mark W. White Jr. These license holders, just 3.7 percent of the state’s 27 million residents, are a symbol of the nation’s culture wars and a subject of scrutiny, state pride, controversy and curiosity.

Not sure, but the data for both locations were from a table of comparables.

And it makes sense.
Houston is almost as big as Chicago now all by itself, and add Dallas (US #9) and you got a LOT of illegals and gangsters.
Plus some in San Antonio and Austin.

Not in the Republic of Vermont. Don’t get me wrong - I detest Sanders and all the other ‘progressive’ nut-jobs moving here, but one thing we’ll never change is the fact anyone over the age of 16 (who’s not a felon) can carry anything, almost anywhere, concealed. No test, no license, no fees, no questions (except from the clueless border patrol nannies who come from another state). I carry the VT Constitution in my vehicle so they can read it.

Looks like in 2014

Chicago. 2.6 million people 461 homicides
Tecas. 27.0 million.people. 1184 homicides

Near as I can get. Texas had 10 times the population of Chicago but only about 2.6 times the homicides. Most curios since Texas is a very heavily armed state,

The only way to compare crime is by rates.

What I mean is, in AZ we don't need a license to carry concealed.

Open carry or concealed requires no license. You can get a concealed license for certain purposes but for the most part, not necessary.

So far there has not been wild shooting in the streets as predicted by the gun ban crowd.
