House Speaker Paul Ryan opened the door Monday to stepping down as Republican convention chairman if asked by presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump, whom Ryan has declined to endorse.

Ryan first made the comments during a meeting with Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporters.

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel columnist Christian Schneider tweeted: “.@SpeakerRyan on whether he'd step down as convention chair if Trump asks: I'll do whatever he asks me to do.”

Asked about the reported comments, a spokeswoman for Ryan confirmed to Fox News: “That is his position, yes.”

Trump needs to oblige Ryan’s offer and replace him with a none apologetic American patriot to oversee the convention

“Now that Ryan has made obeisance, maybe it will serve Trump’s purposes to have him remain as chair.”

W R O N G !!

As long as Ryan is in power, he will seek to hurt the American economy, and American citizens. He is the worst of the worst!

Trump will probably take him up on that offer as shrill as it its.

Perhaps Ivanka will run the Republican convention.

Ryan lost me just about 4 years ago, the night he debated Joe Biden. Actually, it really wasn’t a debate as Biden wiped the floor with Ryan. It was a dismal performance to say the least. Since then, I have had no respect for Ryan, and just about everything he has done since has proved me right.

This is a typical passive-aggressive move.

He's trying to force Trump into buckling to his authority by feigning compliance.

This is how Ryan wants the scenario to play out:

1) Ryan: I'll step down if Trump wants me to.

2) Trump: Oh no, don't step down; we need you right were you are.

3) Ryan: I'll stay, since you want me to; now, let's get a few things straight...

Step #2 is where Trump defers to Ryan's authority, and #3 is where Ryan reasserts his. Everybody is not in there place.

To quote Major Ackbar: it's a trap!

I agree. Both he and Romney pulled their punches and took a dive.

being free of convention chairman duties, he might have more time for more dirty tricks.

I agree. Don't trust him for a second.

Ryan, you don’t need to be asked. There’s the door. Use it.

Ryan, just another sneaky, open borders, Obamatrade, TPP, pro Syrian invasion, traitor.

This puke should be arrested and jailed.

Take Lyin' Ted too.

How about putting him in a Hillary t-shirt and dropping him off at a Trump rally?

Typical, false humility, manipulative, self-righteous, ploy, for Ryan to relieve himself, literally, on the voters.

Yes, to relieve himself on us.

Yes. DT should stand up and say this: “Speaker Ryan said he’d do what I ask. I insist that he either give me unqualified support in my run for the presidency, starting today and never flagging in that support, including after I’m sworn in. If he cannot do that, I ask he resign from the convention chairmanship. If he cannot support me in legislative actions after I’m elected, I ask he resign the Speakership of the House immediately. Americans deserve our full support in a coordinated team effort against the forces that impede the greatness of America.”

This removes the martyr card. It throws the decision and blame back on Ryan.

Biden is no rookie when it comes to debates and I don’t care who the candidate is. He may be gaffe prone when not prepared but make no mistake about it when prepared the guy is a masterful debater. I remember watching him in awe actually and sayin to myself this guy is no dummy and the debates showed.

Hey, Pauly, get used to stepping down. In about 3 months you’ll be rejected by your own district, and you’ll be stepping down from both your seat and the Speakership.

Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Remember my thread about a third party and the GOP reorganizing so that Trump was cut out of their party?

This is a step in that direction, no? At what point does the assembly in Cleveland stop being a GOP convention and start becoming a Trump Independent for President convention?

I would argue it becomes that when there is no presence to represent the GOP establishment. The closer it gets to that limit, the more likely it would seem to me that they will have a Plan B in mind and a nominating convention some other place, some other time.

Now if we can get Bernie to do the same and make it a four-way race, I think we could all see who would win that.
