House Speaker Paul Ryan opened the door Monday to stepping down as Republican convention chairman if asked by presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump, whom Ryan has declined to endorse.
Ryan first made the comments during a meeting with Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporters.
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel columnist Christian Schneider tweeted: “.@SpeakerRyan on whether he'd step down as convention chair if Trump asks: I'll do whatever he asks me to do.”
Asked about the reported comments, a spokeswoman for Ryan confirmed to Fox News: “That is his position, yes.”

Ryan’s temper tantrum did him far more harm than good. He had probably already written a passionate acceptance speech for when the brokered convention drafted him to be the White Knight. When Cruz and Kasich both dropped out last week, it upset his whole plan about writing a book about how he lost to Hillary Clinton.

RyanO has felt the backlash against his lunacy. He’s now worrying about his own election.
Sarah Palin might have added the last straw for him.
On the other hand, being free of convention chairman duties, he might have more time for more dirty tricks.
Either way, RyanO is not doing this out of support for Trump, or from the goodness of his heart.
“As a VP candidate, my Secret Service name was “Limp Noodle” I never figured out what made them choose that one.
Ryan should either announce that he supports the party’s nominee or resign as convention chair. Period.
Saying he’ll resign only if Trump asks is simply another chickenshite move by Ryan.

Now that Ryan has made obeisance, maybe it will serve Trump’s purposes to have him remain as chair. Ryan might have to eat a serving of humble pie each day of the convention AND announce Trump’s nomination. If Ryan screws up even a little bit . . . TOAST.
