Donald Trump and Paul Ryan Strike Conciliatory Notes Before Crucial Meeting
New York Times ^ | May 9, 2016 | Maggie Haberman and Jennifer Steinhauer

Facing a steep challenge as he prepares to meet with Republican leaders about uniting their splintering party, Donald J. Trump on Monday struck a more conciliatory tone about House Speaker Paul D. Ryan.

And Mr. Ryan appeared to reciprocate, saying he would step down from his position as chairman of the Republican National Convention in July if that is what the party’s presumptive nominee requests.

The article does not quote Paul Ryan as saying anything “conciliatory”. Offering to step down as chairman of the Convention could be seen more as digging in his heels in his unwillingness to endorse Mr. Trump. As in “I am sticking with my refusal to endorse you, so you want someone else to be chairman, that’s fine with me.” What is conciliatory about that?

By the way, is “not ready” something like voting “present”?

Fixed it to account for Trump's opening negotiating stance.

The media, Ryan, and the Never Trump GOP elites are masquerading it as getting Trump to become more conservative though. Don’t fall for this. It’s a total crock of crap.

Honestly, I don't think it matters that these weasels are trying to BS the voters. As long as they can't BS Trump, we win. And they can't.

Is this a trap?

Sounds good, Ryan out as the chairman of the convention...who then steps in as the chairman?

Does the inter circle of Republicans decide who steps in or does Trump have a say at all? I don’t know the rules here. Help please anyone?

Ryan should either announce that he supports the party’s nominee or resign as convention chair. Period.

Saying he’ll resign only if Trump asks is simply another chickenshite move by Ryan.

Is Ryan’s end goal re-election or employment by lobbyists?

Yes, Ryan appears to have blinked. The Times got it backwards— you’re right again.

TRUMP was likewise vocal about who is friggin’ in charge of the dealing to be going on.

All Ryan had to do was check out the soaring contributions coming in to his August ‘16 Republican opponent, after Ryan shot off his mouth over the week’s end.

The upcoming August Wisconsin race could be a battle royale and we should help that opponent.

As for Ryan, dealing with a business wheeler dealer icon is quite different from pushing around political underlings and colleagues, whose skeletons you can hold over them.

No, TRUMP is a FORCE to be reckoned with, with damn little in common with these globalist, Republican “ex-SPURTS”.

Trump should say that he believes Ryan is a really great guy and wish him well, followed by the words, “Your fired!” Ryan had his chance to start uniting the party; he chose instead to give legitimacy to all the malcontents who want to see Hillary win. He needs to go. Trump will be happy to take the credit for giving him the boot.

Good point.

In long run, no difference.

In short run, whether he cares about his primary.

Roger Stone says an insurrection is occurring in Congress. Not all Republicans agree with Paul Ryan’s extreme anti voter views.

“Trump should say that he believes Ryan is a really great guy and wish him well, followed by the words, “Your fired!””

A more subtle response from Trump would be: “I think it’s essential that the GOP convention chair be someone who supports the party’s nominee.”

That puts the ball back in Ryan’s court and is a typical win-win move by Trump that paints his opponent into a lose-lose corner.

Ryno better get conciliatory — not Trump. 10.6 million voted for the party nominee— WE WIN!! Ryno loses. You better drop that arrogant attitude Ryno or else you may get CANTORED real bad.

Haberman is a Trump hater. I saw her on CNN the night of the Chicago “riot” just raging about Trump.

Time for Ryan to get his @ss kicked by Nehlen. There’s not a dime’s worth of difference between him and a democRAT.
