When I was in high school in suburban Maryland in the late 1970s, we had a “Drill Team” composed entirely of black females. Jump suits, berets, jumping around and clenched fists. Maybe some similar background here.
At first glance with the gray uniforms I thought it was a Confederate thing.
It would be difficult to prove it was a political statement and almost impossible to prove what political statement they were making.

I recall when three black US Olympic track stars won G, S and B medals for one event. After getting their medals they posed for photos, while holding their right arms straight up and with clenched fists. ....That caused an uproar, because that was the symbol of the “black power” movement of the time.

These women are all members of the Class of ‘16.
They are due to graduate in two weeks, on May 21st, becoming commissioned officers after 4 arduous years of work.
What is the US Army going to do?
What does that have to do with this case. This isn't an "Army brass" matter. It is a DOD directive that applies to everyone on active duty. Why are you linking the two, which are unrelated and not analogous. The rules apply to everyone.

Crockett was wrong in his attempting minimize those who were educated and therefore more qualified to withstand the rigors of West Point and ridiculing them to boot. Income envy?
We are cursed with “Equal opportunity” in being accepted to our Military Academies. This is wrong. What is desired is that young men and women should be accepted on the basis of their abilities and qualifications. If ANYONE, regardless of skin color, is accepted, they should compete and qualify equally just as the rest of the applicants do.
PS I am the Father of two Academy graduates. My kids worked their butts off to get their slots and to graduate.
The system of appointing unqualified individuals merely sets most of them to fail.
