Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Not Appearing in This Movie
New York Times ^ | May 2, 2016 | Liam Stack

The number of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender characters in films released by the seven major Hollywood studios held steady in 2015, but many were included only to be the butt of a joke and an overwhelming majority of them were white or male, according to a new report by GLAAD, formerly known as the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

While the overall percentage of such characters in films stayed the same, the advocacy group said in its fourth annual report that a closer look at the data revealed 2015 to have been a less inclusive year on the big screen by almost every other measure.

The number of female characters dropped while the number of males characters rose, it said, and the amount of racial diversity among L.G.B.T. characters fell sharply after making improvements the year before.

Those findings come amid criticism aimed at Hollywood over the lack of racial diversity in film that reached a boiling point earlier this year when no people of color were nominated in the acting categories of the Academy Awards for the second year in a row, spawning the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite.

“The overwhelming majority of L.G.B.T. characters that do make it to the big screen continue to lack substance and purpose,” Sarah Kate Ellis, the group’s president and C.E.O., said in a statement that accompanied the report’s release. Too often, she said, the characters “are included as the setup of a punch line or exist as an isolated token character who never gets the chance to bloom into a fully formed personality.”

I don’t patronize or watch films that have sodomite characters. PERIOD.

I find their lifestyles to be repulsive, and resent the health risks they pose to the rest of us. I don’t, nor am I interested in understanding how one guy looks at another guys hairy arse, and says “I got to have that”...

Have there been any major homosexual themed movies since Brokeback Mountain?

They are complaining that blacks (pardon, people of color) make up only 21% of the film characters.

About the same percentage as in the USPS.

Mr. Twig: As you may or may not know, the first annual South Park Film Festival begins today.
Kyle Broflovski: They’re going to show that stupid ass Godzilla movie, are they?
Mr. Garrison: No Kyle, these are independent films.
Stan: What, like Independence Day? That movie sucked ass too.
Cartman: No dude, independent films are those black and white hippie movies. They’re always about gay cowboys eating pudding.

People want to see movies that tell a good story. Not social engineering manifestos.

I just turn the channel when any show has the deviates on. Not worth my time. I do the same with show’s that have the lead character as a tiny woman that is tougher than all the male characters. Kinda tired of hollywood pushing the agenda that fags and chicks are more capable than the bumbling white man.

Which episode was that? I haven’t seen them all, I watch sometimes with my daughter who is a big fan. One of the many things I’ve noticed is they put way too many references to the UN in their show. They have power over everything.

Probably during the span of shows where there was a significant bleed-over between Dr. Who and Torchwood, with CPT Jack Harkness.

Torchwood became so overwrought with homosexual themes that it became unwatchable ...

“Which episode was that? (snip) One of the many things I’ve noticed is they put way too many references to the UN in their show. They have power over everything.”

I have no idea what the episode was called. The two characters looked at each other and then threw themselves at each other. It was irrelevant to the plot and therefore gratuitous agenda.

I agree about the UN. As a writer, I understand part of why they did that. Britain is not powerful enough to make the plot decisions regarding the safety of the world and they didn’t want to use the USA as they had in the distant past. The same thing happened in Star Gate when the show went from being all about Americans to be more inclusive and diverse. (That’s where I gave up on Star Gate. It got PC which ruined the show. Similarly, Star Trek Voyager got so PC I couldn’t bear it. It was all I could do to continue watching during the Star Trek episode where Picard explains the economics of the 24th century which was pure communism. It’s all this globalist anti-American agenda.)

I asked my daughter and this is what she told me, “That was Torchwood, not Dr. Who. Captain Jack Harness got drunk and kissed an alien that was pretending to be a man.”

Gross either way..

Seems inappropriate, somehow, that these folks discriminate against those who prefer sex with barnyard animals.

Not very inclusive, after all.

I am finding it harder and harder to watch any TV program or series that doesn’t have LGBT person(s) in them. I started watching Grantchester, about a deacon over England. Well at some point they introduced a deacon that is now gay and struggling.

I had watched How to commit Murder, again find out the main character is bisexual. I started watching Scandal, then low and behold, another gay person in the series.

I am just so tired of in your face series.

I enjoyed the latest season of Daredevil, but I had to laugh when they had the flashback to Elektra when she was about 10. A little 80-pound munchkin not only kicks every adult male’s ass (and these were big, highly trained combatants), but she got one in a headlock and beat him to death.

I understand the very first episode of Scandal involved a Republican general who ultimately came out as gay. Kerry Washington is a huge Obama supporter. It’s childish, but I flip off the screen when she’s in a makeup commercial.
